Adding another HDTV

Hi all, I have a question.

I currently have a 625 connected to 2 bedroom SD TV's.
I currently have a 311 connected to another bedroom SD TV.
I currently have a 211 connected to my living room HDTV.

I just purchased another HDTV for my game room and need another HD connection. How can I accomodate this new HDTV with an HD connection?

The Live Chat rep I just talked to kept telling me to upgrade my 625 for a dual tuner HD DVR, but wouldn't that still be leaving out my new HDTV?

Thanks in advance for any direction.

I would replace the 311 with a 222. The 222 has an HD out on tv1 and a sd out on tv2. It is not a dvr, just a dual tuner receiver. With this you will not have to add a dpp44 switch. If you add another receiver you will have to add the dpp44 switch. A dpp44 switch is pricy.

Simplest solution, add another 211. 622/722 could be installed at new HD location and sacond tuner sent to replace 311. Doing this example would bump your DVR fee????? depending on selected programming package.

You are correct, current dual tuner receivers only gives you one HD tuner.

How far away is the game room? You could hook the 211 to the living room TV and use component for the game room (or vice versa). If you assume you'll use only the living room or game room, but not both simultaneously it might actually be easier just to have an antenna connection in both locations and lug the 211 between rooms. If you get the push-on "F" connectors, have an extension AC outlet behind the receiver location, and label wires it won't be too hard to move the 211. I was going to wire my 211 to two rooms until I priced 100' hdmi or component cables, and saw what a major job it would be to run them cleanly. Don't forget, the standard 211 remote is infrared so would need to be in the same room as the receiver.

Thanks, both TVs would be used a lot at the same time. The cable run between them would be about 70' so I wouldn't think this would work very well.

You haven't mentioned the current dish. 1000....1000.2......wing????? What say you.

It's a 1000. Not sure about .2 and what do you mean by wing? The dish was installed around 3+ years ago.

Looks like replacing the 311 with a 222 would be the simplest and least expensive. Can I do that under the Dish'n it up? What's the difference between the 222 and 222k ?

Thanks again!

Ok, the dish says 1000, the switch is DP-34. It's interesting though that diagnostics says Dish 500?

I'm still not sure if it's a .2 though. I don't know how to tell. Here's a blurry shot I took with my phone this morning...

Hi chilidog.

You will need to decide how many HD TVs you will have, and if you need an HD tuner for each of them. Be sure to factor in your long range DVR requirements as it will affect your hardware requirements and monthly fees.

I'm right at my level of incompetence with this, but here goes.

From your first post it seems you are out of antenna connections. Keeping in mind that each tuner needs one input, a 222, 622, 722 would each require two antenna inputs. With a DP-34, you would need two of its coax wire outputs to one dual tuner receiver (625?) and one for the 311 and one for the 211. The DPP44 is pricey, needs a power supply and power injector, and also has 4 outputs. However, each one of these outputs can be run to a separator, which splits the one output wire to two tuners. The separator looks similar to a splitter, and most of the time you have two 3 inch coax cables from the two tuner inputs to it, with the other wire going to the switch.

Do the math, but sometimes it is easier to buy a used Dish 500 w/DP-34 and feed TVs from both than to rewire the house with a single DPP44 setup.

As several others mentioned, replacing the 311 with a 622/722 HD receiver makes sense. Put it in the family room for your new HD TV with HDMI, and run the coax output of the receiver to the bedroom TV on an over the air channel. The 622/722 TV2 has a UHF remote that can controlled from the bedroom.

Take your time. You have a number of choices, each with a different combination of cash outlays vs lease payments vs access fees vs DVR fees.

Good luck!

The specs for the DP34 state "Up to three DP34 Switches can be "trunked" together, for connections up to twelve tuner inputs (12 single-tuner receivers (DISH 301 or DISH 501), or a combination of single-tuner receivers and two-tuner receivers".

Would there be any downside to trunking one more for expansion?

You might also think about the other DishPro Plus switch: the DPP33. A DPP33 can also be trunked to a DP34 (like another DP34 or the DPP44) and can feed 3 dual-tuner receivers via one cable each.

Ok, I just got off the phone with the Dish rep. He says my 625 is being fed by a single line so the DP34 is ok for adding another tuner. He said that even if they needed to add another switch, it is also included at no additional cost to me.

They are upgrading the 625 to a 722 and making me buy another 311 for $99 because he says I can only have 4 leased tuners on my account. They waived the $50 DVR upgrade fee (he said since I have been such a great customer for so long) and said installation is included in the upgrade. They are mailing me the 722 and the tech is bringing the new 311 with him next week.

I made it clear what my configuration is to be (new HDTV in another room, with a new cable drop) and he said multiple times that my only cost will be $99 for everything.

Does this sound correct? I got his name and ID just in case there is any "confusion".

With your setup, I would either replace your dish with a 1000.2 or go with the DPP33 switch. Then, if you have not done a dish'n it up within the last year, replace the 311 with a 222 (222k if you have an OTA) or a 722 if you want to DVR at the game room. Place the new receiver in the game room where the HDTV is and run a coax back to the bedroom for the 2nd tuner. It might be easier to diplex the 2nd tuner signal since there is already a coax running to the bedroom. Therefore, you would only need to run one coax to the game room

The DP34 cannot run a 625 with one cable. I dont care what the CSR said, it is impossible. And why are you buying a 311? You already have one.

If that's the case, they will be adding another switch.

I am buying the 311 because he said I could only have 4 leased tuners on my account. He said my only options were to either buy a new HD reciever for $290 or buy a new 311 for $99. That way I will still have 4 leased tuners and then one more owned by me.

The new 725 will handle the SDTV that the 625 is connected to and the new gameroom HDTV. The new (owned by me) 311 will connect to the bedroom TV that the 625 had as the 2nd connection.
