Adding a 7th Receiver

I want to add a 7th receiver to my account but I don't need or want to deal with a technician coming out to do it, which they seem to be insisting on doing. How do I get around needing a tech to install it?

If I purchase a receiver and self-install it, will that work? Does the receiver have to be previously bought only or can it be a former lease that is not longer under contract?

I have the dish and setup already ready to just plug a new DVR in...I just don't have that DVR receiver yet.

you should be able to get the receiver from a retailer i think. then just call D* and get them to activate it on the automated hotline.

Check with Solid Signal, I've always had good experience with them.
They will have the recvr you want, you can choose the model , unlike if you went thru D*.
Keep in mind, only 1 Genie currently per account.

If you go with SS or most others, it will be the recvr that is Leased in most cases, unless you pay the actual full price thru D*.
Adding another recvr will put you in a 2 yr commitment (unless it's bought outright Owned, and I would make sure D* has it listed that way if you find one.)

Depends on what your really trying to accomplish.

Also it will be good to know your entire set up (receiver model numbers, etc) as you might go ever the SWM limit if you have one. This is the reason why DIRECTV requires a tech to install.

Kinda sounds like he has nothing but regular recvrs so far and may be going to a DVR as the 7th recvr ...
Really need more info like Peds said.
IF your adding a DSR, you'll probably want to go to a Genie, more bang for your buck and that would require a SWM set up, if you have D* do the install the SWM equipment is free vs you buying it.

There is an 8 tuner limit without addl equipment .... if you have 6 non dvr recvrs at the moment, you do have room for a HD DVR, non Genie on your current set up. (Genie will add 5 tuners for you, vs 2 for a normal DVR.

Sounds like you could possibly re arrange the set up and add a Genie and possibly remove older equipment ? and save money at the same time, unless your using now 7 TV's.
