Some of you might be wondering why a number of SatelliteGuys members and staff are sporting a backwards DirecTV logo.
The issue is that DirecTV seems to think that it has control over what can and cannot be discussed here at SatelliteGuys.US. Last weekend we posted a notice to our homepage talking about some new DirecTV software that was released, in it we thanked members of our Cutting Edge forum for helping to test the software and we also listed many of the technologies our members helped test. One of the technologies that we listed was MRV, which stands for Multi Room Viewing. MRV is not a released feature yet, but its one of the features we have tested and it has been widely talked about in public including on DirecTV earnings calls.
DirecTV demanded that we remove the MRV mention from our homepage and we declined, again we felt it wasn’t a secret since it has been widely talked about here and elsewhere.
Almost 3 years ago we met with DirecTV at CES and they told us that if we agreed to some rules set by them that they would do certain things for us. We agreed to that and have held to our agreement, but DirecTV has yet to deliver on any of their promises.
DirecTV threatened us that they were going to pull official support from our site, to us this did not matter since they were not providing any official support to us anyways.
The childish games from DirecTV even went on so that DirecTV banned members from their new DirecTVInsiders.COM website just because they felt those members might be SatelliteGuys members. These members had nothing to with anything that happened, they were kicked out solely because of their association with this website.
This has opened our eyes and the eyes of many of our members to how poorly managed DirecTV really is. A number of our members were so upset about the way they have been treated by DirecTV that they are willing to cancel their service with DirecTV. If they wish to do so they can, however to show our displeasure we have created the backwards DirecTV logo. As if any company is ass backwards it is DirecTV.
DirecTV would want us only to report to you the items they spoon-feed us exactly as they spoon feed it to us. In addition in some cases DirecTV would want us to steer discussions to specific topics and also wanted us to submit our reviews and first looks to them so that they could sanitize them.
Ultimately we feel this is unfair to you our members and we will no longer honor the request of DirecTV in these matters. From now on anything we hear that we consider newsworthy from DirecTV we will post it, it does not matter if its new unannounced product, new features announced in private forums and chats, if we hear about them we will post them. It is not SatelliteGuys job to police items; it is DirecTV’s job to prevent these types of leaks from happening.
If you want your sanitized censored DirecTV news and information fed to you then we welcome you to check out DBSTalk.COM. However if you want a comfortable place to learn about DirecTV in a friendly atmosphere without all the censorship then welcome home to SatelliteGuys.US.
A number of our members have asked about the status of the Cutting Edge program here at SatelliteGuys, the CE program will continue as it always has. We have FULL PERMISSION from DirecTV to continue posting the CE release notes. In fact DirecTV acknowledged that the CE program is an OPEN PUBLIC BETA program that anyone or any website can participate in. Unlike the CE program at the other site we not only want our members to find bugs in the CE's but have fun doing it. Again here at SatelliteGuys we are not going to ban you or censor your CE posts because your reports are not written like others might want or if your but post might offend DirecTV.
So that explains why many of us are wearing the reversed DirecTV logos. If you would like to help show your support of SatelliteGuys in these matters you are welcome to use this logo as your avatar as well over the next week.
