942 reboot question - how?

Just upgraded to the 942 a few weeks ago. Can someone tell me how to perform both soft & hard reboots?

I'm pretty sure a soft involves holding the power button for a few seconds, but I'd like to know how long & what to look for (i.e. front panel lights).

Also, what are the dangers of rebooting & losing recorded material?

Soft reboot is holding the power button. 5 seconds should do it.

Hard reboot is pulling the power plug. You should wait at least 15 seconds before powering it back up.

The loss danger is a crapshoot.

All of the above applies to all E* DVRs (except maybe the 7x00).
