Hi Everyone. Thnaks for all the great info. I am looking into either upgrading my oldschool Tivo series 1 to the DVD burning one or maybe stepping up to the 942. Here's my situation: I have the Tivo connected to a 311 reciever which sits next to my 811. The reason: we like to record shows while we watch something else and our installer said this was the only way to do it (which always sounded shady to me... but... digress).

My question: if i get the 942 - can I do away with this second box and still record 1 channel and watch another? thought i read that soemwhere.

My 2nd question: I was reading in the 942 owners manual on the Dish site that you can record a show and watch it on more than 1 TV? How does that work - do the boxes need to be networked together somehow or can they share programs thru the coax?

Thanks in advance!
Nate

1. Yes, the 942 has two tuners. I have not tried it yet as I just got my 942 3 days ago, but I think you can even record two shows and playback a recorded show at the same time.

2. From my understanding, you have to run a coax or RCA connections from the 942 to the second TV for this to work. It cannot use the dish coax, because that is for receiving signals from the dish exclusivly. I have not and don't plan to use this just simply because I want to use the picuture in picutre stuff and I have an 811 on my smaller TV.

I have 2- 942s so here is my imput.

Because the 942 has 3 tuners (2 sats - 1 OTA) you can and I have recorded three shows at once but it is limited to 2 Sat channels and 1 - OTA channel.

You can do any combination of things such as a) recording 1 sat & 1 OTA while watching an other sat channel live, b) recording 2 sat channels while watching an OTA live c) record 3 shows as noted above and view a previously recorded show all at the same time. NOTE IF you use dual mode can not view OTA live on TV2 at any time just Sat live or playback and OTA playback, you can always view OTA live on TV1 and if you are in single mode on TV2 as well. Of course you can only view and / or record 1 OTA channel at one time as there is only one OTA tuner. Also note at this time OTA is limited to digital stations only.
