942 Black Screen Problem

For the past 3 weeks, each time I power on the 942 for TV1 HD viewing, I get the black screen--guide and sound, but not picture -- on any input.

I have called Dish 3 times and get the same answer--"We are working on it--it is a software problem"

This is really annoying, as I have to do a soft reset to get the picture back--pressing the power button 10 seconds and releasing and waiting for it to cycle through the satellite acquiring signal, etc.

Are they just ignoring us 942 owners, knowing we are a dying group and why should they bother?

If something is not done to fix this problem, how long before we can demand some sort of compensation--such as turning in the 942 and getting something that works?

This just adds to the acidic, caustic treatment we have received from dish as previous HD customers.

If we lived near cable, we'd be gone by now. Direct TV doesn't seem much better.

VOOM, where are you when we need you (not the VOOM HD "original", but VOOM the satellite provider!!! Charlie Dolan--wherever you are, please come back!

Well, if anyone knows about this 942 problem, please post.

Having seen no responses to this, I assume no one else is having this problem.

HOWEVER, the Dish Tech Support that I have been calling every week for the past 4 weeks (just after the new software update), claims that EVERYONE is having the same problem, that it is a software issue and so will just have to wait for the Software update to fix it.

She said the next software update may not be until NEXT QUARTER.

Is there any other recourse for this malfunction of my 942? Can I ask for a credit or what? Or, temporarily, a 211?

I have the same problem. I thought about calling Dish, but haven't been in the mood to wait in phone queues and humor them by running through a whole bunch of diagnostic tests (probably including rescanning all of my locals, deleting all of my timers, etc.) only to hear in the end that it is a software problem. My bad.

It's been happening for a while along with audio drop outs, and other weird anomolies. It's something that started with one of the software downloads for me but I guess others have had the problems longer. Will they fix it ? Maybe eventually but right now they're in no hurry because the more irritated you get with it, the more likely you are to upgrade to a MPEG4 receiver. You laugh?

Signal strength

ok, I have an 811 and bought a vip211 - what do I tell CSR?
