921 & Open TV

Why does the 921 not support Open TV?

Because it (and the 721) are running Linux (as opposed to Open TV OS). I believe the 522 is also going to be Linux based (as is TiVo).

Apparently the Engineers realized they needed a REAL OS to support the more complicated dual tuner functions (and/or the processor in those boxes).

I would expect OPENTV on the 921 shortly after it is released. I know it is about to go into testing for the 721.

What does OpenTV support mean for 721/921 users?

In other words, are they revising the interface, or just adding support for OpenTV interactive applications without UI changes?

From what I know there will be no changes to the UI at all, just will run the interactive stuff.
