Only one channel is fine but SD only? Come on. If this is going to be a nationally available sports channel then it should be in HD. The RSN strategy of gametime only HD doesn't work because it's all college sports and no pro sports to trigger gametime only HD.

Dare I say...FearNet! It would be nice to have in time for Halloween (especially with AMC no longer there if AMC decides to continue airing horror movies close to Halloween).

I agree. For some reason Dish still seems to think that SD should be a bigger priority than HD when it comes to sports.

I believe that Scott mentioned a few weeks back that Dish needs to maintain transponder space available in the event that they settle with Disney and AMC and have to go ahead and add the missing HD channels from those providers. That makes sense to a certain extent (if Dish foresees settlements in the near to medium term). However, if bandwidth is at such a premium that they cannot launch new national HD channels in HD (BeIn and Pac-12 would be the recent examples), then why are they moving so slowly with the western arc tech transition to mpeg4? Also, I'm sure it's been explained, but why did Dish shift EA from a three sat setup to primarily a two sat setup? That seems to be constraining bandwidth on EA as much as WA is constrained by having to support the older codecs.

I just don't see this as likely. By all reports BeIn was paying providers to be carried and I can't imagine Pac-12 wants there schools displayed in SD rather than HD. Aside from revenue, they want the exposure that a national channel will afford the conference. It just seems that national viewers would be much more likely to watch a sporting event in HD than in SD. For that reason I can't see them pricing the HD channel such that some providers will opt to only take the SD channel to save money. I could be completely off base on my take on what Pac-12 is doing, but my gut tells me that the HD price is probably similar (if not equal to the SD price).

So - Pac12 uplinked for testing. Very exciting as this is a step in the right direction. Not being familiar with the uplink and testing procedure, should I read too much into the fact that it is only in SD at this point?
