8 Hd Channels On 1 Transponder

I noticed that E* recently added 5 additional HD channels on transponder 27 on 129; previously, there were only 3 (A&E 9419, UNIV 9427 and MAX 9458). The new channels are: ALTUD 360; HD SOURCE CHANNELS FOR SPORTS PACK 5791, 5792, 5793; and TEST CHANNEL MP271 5890. Since they added these channels I noticed that the HD picture quality on MAX isn't as sharp as it was since they lit up the channel. Could this be because there is less bandwidth available per channel since E* added the 5 additional channels? I hope this is just a temporary thing and not the direction E* is moving to. Why doesn't E* do their testing on other satellites so as not to interfere with the picture quality of live channels? With all the discussion of other providers gearing up for more and better HD channels, one would think that E* would be working hard to improve picture quality of both SD and HD and not degrade it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but, in this case, I'm seeing less beauty.

Rich,

Hey Im not at home to look at the tables or see the quality, but if dish is doing 8 hd channels on that transponder that would be big news as that would be the first time. It also would not surprise me as the new mpg 4 encoders could handle this just fine. I would love to see dish bring it to about 6 per tp with all of them in full rez hd! I think even 7 would be doable.

Also keep in mind that the movie you was watching at the time might not have been in high def but sd wide screen. I would like to see other user input as to if it is this channel or if its was just that movie :)

As far as the testing goes they do alot of testing over on 148. But it is best to do testing on the birds that you will be braudcasting from as it gives them time to identify any issues on that bird. Its not uncommon for them to do that. Feel free to give dishquality an email if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

Thoses 8 channels are not running all at the same time.

3 are fulltime and the rest are partime. The Partime ones only 2 or 3 will be used at a time.

We're having trouble with 129/27 as well. Maybe they did screw it up because my mother was having issues watching CSI on A&E HD for the past two days... signal kept getting lost.

I'm getting really tired of all the people who are technically clueless, and keep telling the engineers what to do.

The most dangerous thing in the world is a little bit of knowledge.

PS The number of channels on a transponder has nothing to do with the signal strength. EchoStar 5 satellite has problems, and the signal drops every so often.

A&E is not working (Transponder 27) while all the other HD channels ARE (including the VOOMs). Also, Discovery HD Theatre looked REALLY pixelated. Anyone know what's up?

Probably only related in passing- but I still cannot get a lock on 61.5 transponder 22. Been that way for a couple of weeks now. Not sure what's up.

I also get 129 but have not noticed any problems there. I'll keep an eye out.

I think A&E and Universal are on transpoder 22, but I get a week signal on this transponder around 64! This is on 61.5!

my wife said that she isnt having any issues with A&E HD either. She was waching it last night. Maybe its time to start looking at the LNB, or cabeling. How is your signal on the other transponders. I get 100+ on my setup, with some transponders screaming in at 115+. Note: these are not spot beam transponders either.

I can not hold the signal of A&E HD. I get a better signal strength if I go to pointdish, and manually change the transponder to 31, but it keeps defaulting to 27 and won't hold the channel?
What am I doing wrong?

Moving Dish?

129, 61.5 or bigger dish ?
