I got my new receiver up and activated It was like pulling teeth! Why oh WHY do the call centers have to goto India??? Other than that all is well I have a new outside dish being installed in the middle of the month and my programming will increase but not my monthly bill with no contract! YAH! The "American" lady I talked to was great in tech asst... But she couldn't answer me this question:

I am watching this receiver on a sony 1080I big screen tv and any of the SD channels I watch it doesn't fill the whole screen. I get a black bar on either side of the picture. so I'm only using 3/4 of the big screen. I didn't change any of the TV options. I just pluged and played the new receiver. If I watch any of the HD channels it fills the whole screen no problem. I have the only setting I can find in the set up screen for HDviewing set to 1080i and 16X9 aspect ratio. The settings are the same as the 942 I just deactivated. If I play around with the screen size button on the TV it will fill the screen but it cuts off part of the picture then. What am I missing with the setup on the 722 It's annoying to only watch part of the screen. I know this is an easy fix?? I just can't find the right setting?????

As always thanks in advance :)

See the * key on the bottom left of your remote? Press that (FORMAT) and it cycles through different screen-filling formats in your receiver without needing to mess with your TV.

That's what it's supposed to do, the only way to make a 4x3 image ratio fill a 16x9 ratio box is to either crop or stretch it. If you enjoy watching stretch-O-vision, use the * key on the remote for that.

Note the Format key (*) changes separately for HD and SD programming--yes you can zoom or stretch HD but better to choose a different channel.

If the SD picture has bars on the top and bottom then the good station has kept the aspect ratio (called letter boxing) and you need to Zoom it.

If the Normal picture only has side bars then you can Stretch it to fill your screen or live with the bars, the purist way.

In any case, press cancel to see the current stretch/zoom/gray bar/normal state under the banner.
Sorry, less choices on TV2.
