I have a purchased 722 that is causing me problems. Earlier this week I received an overheating error message. Now the receiver just sits and tries to acquire a signal. I think it is fried. I've tried resetting it. Nothing helps.

Is there anyway to repair it or am I out of luck?

I wanted to mention a couple other things. I can receive OTA channels fine and all of the menus and guides appear to be working properly. It's just when I try to view a dish network channel that I get an acquirring signal message. My other receiver does not have a problem.

We did get a few inches of snow and ice. It didn't make sense that one 722 receiver works fine and the other is trying to acquire a signal.

I thought it might be the wiring. I switched receivers ( and tightened all of my connections) and the problem followed the box. Is it possible to purchase Home Protection on a Dish receiver that was purchased from a 3rd party? Dish said I didn't need a smart card for this receiver, could that be the problem?

One more questions - sorry for all of the questions. This receiver is only 4 months old. Even though the receriver was purchased from a third party, will Dish replace it under warranty?

722's do not currently have external smart cards. They are built into the unit. If the problem followed the unit, then your problem is with the unit. You would probably need the protection plan to change out the receiver, but call first and ask for replacement, if they will not do it, you can add the protection plan while on the same call and then ask again for the replacement (again still the same phone call).

Correct. Just call them, go to Tech support and explain the problem to them. They will tell you that the receiver needs to be replaced and that you will need to sign up for the Home Protection plan. Sign up and you'll get your replacement, cancel the Home Protection plan in a month or so.

Ya know...even if Dish does allow for applying for then canceling the home protection plan after a month, it does not seem the most honest thing to do. They are in business to make an honest profit (the American way) and when they can't, what do you suppose will happen to the services they provide. Please don't tell me about the "big corporation" and how it won't hurt anyone, because it will! It hurts the people who pay for what they get and expect a good product/services in return.

"Move" question

Fox News Problems anyone?
