Is there any way to get the timers out of a 722 without the darn hard drive or are they stored on it. Is there any other memory in it they are stored on, and if I pop a working hard in the timers might pop up long enough to save into the remote,l that I could access before they get here and take the unit? HELP!

I logged onto dishonline and did screen captures of the timer's that were in place when I upgraded from my 622 to 722. It would seem that from dishonline there would be the ability to "save" timers and export them to another dvr, but alas, there isn't.

From your post it sounds as if your hard drive has died; I'm not sure if the dishonline would help. I remember getting a 622 years ago (refurb) that came with a bad drive, and once it went through the boot, it would say the dvr was not functioning correctly and after pressing "OK" it would act like a multi tuner non DVR. I didn't try setting timers but perhaps they are stored in non volitile ram like on a 211 or other non DVR; when I say timer I mean 'tune to' or 'reminder' and not record. Hopefully you'll be able to get them.

I wonder if they could tell if I tapped it with a hammer. Some times if you just tap a hard drive it will come back on long enough to at least save a few things if the little head thing is stuck

They are stored in the hard drive. If this is a 722k you may be able to store the timers to your remote, but a regular 722 (non-k) does not have this feature.

Miner and gdarwin do have some good suggestions for you

I highly recommend not to do this.

oh but it's like 80 something timers that I have no idea what they are that I've lost ugggg

Well, this reminds me to go take pictures of the timers on one of my ViP722 units that I suspect is going bad.

In advance. If you have a Sling, log on through DOL. From there go to My Timers. Print out the web page. Then go to you timers in the DVR and match the timers on the print out to what's on the timer schedule to get the channels for the timer. Write them down on the print out. Save this for futire refernce if your dvr dies.

Matt hard drive has died unplugged 25 times transformer next to house blew up last night neighbors tree fell on the darn thing caused a power surge blew up my 722k, I always forget the k forget how important it is to. Thank god my 922 has a ups on it was still watching TV on it in the dark but it took 4 hours for them to fix the darn in in 90 degree heat at 11:00 at night. This has been the biggest mess I swear. I even fell down the stairs twice. This was not a good power outage experience.

Well, you could have used a candle to light your way, and set fire to your home. ;)

almost did that to with those stupid kerosene light things other half thought how pretty it would be to use one in the kitchen and walked off an left it. hour later shade is all black and protruding smoke and was very hot. not good. I swear we are not people from the 1900's we don't know how to use this stuff so probably shouldn't be I know the Amish do but they are different. LOL

Well they came and replaced the box turns out I had saved my recordings into the remote about a year and a half ago so I had about 70 deleted about 30 so not starting from scratch. But let these be a lesson to all of you REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR RECORDINGS INTO YOUR REMOTE ON A REGULAR BASIS. good luck keckge.

All 20.0 and up remotes can save all your timer information. So when your Dvr dies don't let that tech replace it and leave have him save your times and recover them on the new one.

For ViP722K & later receivers. The remote is only half the solution.

how do i access the timers that r in the remote....how does the remote keep the timers???
with a 722k and later with a 20.0 and later remote you hold down the (0) Key for a few seconds while pointed at the reciever which activates the system wizard and you then preform a full system backup into the remote control. It only saves remote settings and timers but that is actually quite a bit of info that you don't have to then put back into the new machine if yours ever fails. The tech should know how to run the restore process mine did but not all of them will so you should stay proficient on how to do this. One other thing you need to remember is, which remote you use to back things up into. (one last thing this must be done while pointed directly at the receivers ir window you cannot do it from another room you have to be standing within about 5 feet of the box with a clear line of sight between you and the box.)
