722 and OTA HD channels

I've been looking around, but i haven't found anyone that has the same problem as me.

I have a 722vip an i get my indy locals through an OTA antenna. about 2-3 months ago, i found that all of my OTA channels with the exception of the CBS channels were no longer there. i tried all the basic resetting the system, rescanning locals testing the antenna directly on the tv (picks up about 40 channels when connected directly to the tv), but only cbs when run through the 722.

I contacted dish and they replaced the unit. hooked up the new one, scanned and i had all my locals. over night, i got all the new updates and the next day, i was back to only CBS.

has anyone else experienced this problem or have any ideas as to when an update that doesn't disable the OTA locals will be released?

Somehow, your HDTV setup, Analog Type has been set to cable, not Off-Air as it should be. There probably was nothing wrong with the original. Software updates have been know to cause this. A lot of folks were affected about 6 months ago or so. Once you set it back and re-scan, you should be fine.

Am I to assume that after you scanned the OTA available services that you remembered to highlight SELECT ALL, and press the select button, then move down to DONE, press select to SAVE changes?

the analog type on the old box and the new one were both set to off-air. i've tried toggling this setting as well as restoring factory defaults and starting over with no luck.

when i scan the locals, the only ones that show up are the 3 cbs channels. When i first hooked up the replacement and scanned, i got all of the channels and saved them to my guide. after the update, the channels still showed in my guide, but did not have any signal behind them, save for the 3 cbs channels. also, the cbs channels run at about 94% signal and the others, when i had them, were all in the 90's also.

My last theory(s) would be cable/connectors. You might have a poor connection and the end of the cable that worked intermittently. Could also be at the antenna end. RG6 cable? Separate line from antenna (not combined with sat line)? Have you addressed those possibilities? Also, are your CBS channels UHF or VHF? The 722's do not have as sensitive tuner as most modern HD sets have. This is a known fact. So, purity of antenna signal important. Now I'm rambling. Good Luck!

The same thing is happening to me and my sister. My sister being 10 miles away. We both have 622 and on Aug 20 when we received the L612 update, we both lost our OTA signals. It's not the antenna or the connections because I also have a 722 and hooked it up where the 622 was and I get 53 digital channels. I connected the 622 and only get one channel ( Fox). TV type on the setup is at off air. I think Dish should come up with a software fix for this problem SOON.

Call Tech Support and bring it to their attention!

it's not a connection issue because before the software update that broke it, i had all the channels fine. and when i hook the cable directly into my tv, i get everything fine as well.

and unfortunatly, when i contact tech support, they just try to send me another receiver which only fixes the problem until it updates itself.

With OTA digital receivers, there is a problem with too much signal just as there is a problem with too little signal. Try adding an attenuator to the line before it enters the receiver to cut the signal down a little bit. This may be your problem. This doesn't happen to satellite signal because there just isn't a configuration that provides too high of signal.

Dish tech support gave me a choice. Wait to see if L613 or 614 upgrade fixes the problem or have a tech come out with a new (most likely refurb) unit. I choose to wait.

Today I wasn't getting my OTA HD on my 722. Did a power reset and they came back. Software is L613. When was that pushed thru?

Same problem with OTA and 722

I have had EXACTLY the same problems described with first getting all the OTA locals and then a day or two later JUST the single local CBS. I also substituted my 622 and my 65" Mitsu with the same OTA antenna feed and always got all 11 locals. DISH has sent me a replacement 722 - twice. Currently this one IS working but I still have software L612.

My HDTV setting is on Offair, not cable, etc. Very frustrating...!!

DISH technical support expresses no knowledge of such a problem but clearly the above comments in this forum give evidence of the issue.

well 613 arrived a while ago and after a checking the settings, rescanning, and even trying a hard reset, still no go on any ota channels except cbs. guess we'll wait and see what 614 holds in store.

contacted tech support

i contacted tech support again and explained that replacing the unit only works until the software is updated. this time they actually said that this is a known issue that is being worked on. unfortunatly, they did not have a timeline for the release that will fix it.

but at least they admit they know its a problem now.

Hi all, if you have a HD TV why not hook the OTA antenna direct to the HD TV?

That's how I have mine setup. All I have to do is switch the inputs using the remote for the TV to change from the OTA antenna to the satellite receiver.

Works great for me, DC

But that won't help not being able to record.

Maybe for 2 reasons. First, my Mits 65" HDTV is 7 years old and doesn't have an ATSC tuner in it. Second, because this thread relates to a 722, I don't know of any HDTVs out there that have a DVR built into it. It's fine to connect direct but you can't timeshift the programming.

I had the same problem, my 722 lost all OTA's after L612.

The fix that worked for me was to cable the OTA direct (minus a spliter), then I did a scan locals. It then found all the locals and saved them into the system. I then cabled the spliter back in and all is well.
