625 DVR Connection Basics

I am new to dual tuner receivers and need a little help understanding how this works. The way I understand the connection is that I have the cable coming in from my DP34 switch to a "diplexer" which is provided in the box for the 625. I then have two pig tails that come out of the diplexer into each of the two satellite in ports on the back of the 625. One for tuner one and one for tuner two. What I don't understand is where does the cable for the second TV originate?

My in-laws have this set up at their house which was connected by a professional installer (I am not sure about the DP34 switch for my in-laws). My In-Laws second TV has a cable coming in to the coax connection on the TV and the satellite programming comes in on channel 60. What I can't tell is where the cable feeding the second TV originates. All their cabling runs underneath the crawl space and I cant see where it goes and I have not been ambitious enough to crawl underneath their house with the spiders and snakes to find out.

Does anyone have a basic wiring diagram for connecting two TV's to a 625? The two TV's are on two different floors. I have a central point in the house where all coax comes in and where the satellite in connects to the switch.

The satellite configuration is a Dish Network 500 with the Pro LNB's. Satellite in comes into a DP34 switch. I currently have 3 TV's and will be swapping out one of the tuners for a Dual Tuner 625 DVR.

On the back of the 625 are two outputs labeled TV1 and TV2(home distribution). TV2 output is set to channel 60 by default is is most likely the source for your parents second TV unless the installer did something different. See this link for a diagram Tech Portal : 625. Diagrams are also available.

Thomas,

Thanks for the link. What I am confused over is how do I get the signal from the back of the 625 to the other TV. How is the phyiscal connection made. In other workds where does the cable connected to the back of TV 2 originate.

While I have been waiting on a reply to this situation I continued to research. Here is a FANTASTIC site that has pretty much every conceivable wiring configuration using various switches, splitters, diplexers. This is a great site!!!!!!!

You have a lot of missunderstanding. It is not a diplexer that comes in the box with dual tuners it is a separator. The separator only works with Dish Pro Plus 44 switches(DPP44) or DPP Twins. Using a DP34 you need 2 cables from the switch to the back of your receiver. The cable for TV2 originates on the back of the satellite receiver and terminates at the TV. How the cable gets between the satellite receiver and TV2 will depend on your house, can you run a cable directly to TV2? Do you need to fish a cable to the attic or basement to connect to the cable going to TV2? Can you use diplexers to send the signal to a common point for TV2?

Bob,

Thanks for the reply.

I have all coax wiring coming into a central point with only one coax going out to each TV. I have a Dish 500 connecting to a DP34 which is chained to another DP34. Given that each room only has 1 coax connection for each TV, is there a way to make use of a dual tuner DVR using the above configuration and drive 2 TVs, one from each tuner?

If you really have a dp34 switch you MUST have 2 lines to the dual tuner in order for it to work properly. It will not work right with one. Dont really understand your question, but if you are trying to hookup tv2 and your wiring goes to a central hub then just diplex one of your sat lines and then hook the existing line you have for the room you want into the diplexor. Diplexors are always used in pairs. Set tv2 to whatever channel you want, tune tv2 to that channel and your done.

It would help if you describe your system. We can't see what you have currently and as you post more your system is becoming more complex. The altermative is upgrade through DISH and just have them come out and install appropriate switches and cabling.

Thanks to all. I finally have the basics down at this point. I realize now that in order to operate two TV's from a dual tuner receiver with only one coax coming into the receiver that I must use a DP44 switch with two diplexers and one separator. According to several posts on this site and other sources, the DP34 requires two ports and two pieces of coax to feed the two tuners

Trouble adding 508 to my set-up

Hi all:

My existing set-up (installed by E*) is a Superdish pointed at 110/118/119, 3 feeds going to a DP34 switch, 2 separate outputs going into my living room feeding my 625. Using a pair of Holland DPD2 diplexers (1 connected to the one of the outputs of the DP34 and other to the TV2 input/output of 625), there is a cable run from the outside/around the house into my guest bedroom feeding my second TV.

I now want to add a 508 to my account without too much trouble. I was sent a Dish Pro Plus separator to feed my 625 using just 1 cable, and free up the 2nd cable to exclusively feed the 508.

Assuming that I am going to feed TV2 output from my 625 directly into my master, I assume that the pair of diplexers could now be used to make the RF output on 508 hot on my guest bedroom in addition to the RCA feeding my living room TV (both 508 and 625 will remain on living room).

Question:
Taking cue from E*, I unhooked the separate input into TV2 (of 625) and set it aside for 508. I then fed the input (currently going to 625's TV1) into the DPP separator and feed the 2 outputs into the 625 TV1 & TV2. When I do a check switch, I get a RED DP34 - invalid on SAT1 & just 119 on TV2). I wonder if E* incorrectly assumed that I have a DP44, instead of DP34. can DP34 work in conjunction with a DPP separator?

Gary, Thanks.....I feared the same

Garys:

Thanks for confirming the fact. I feared the same too (DPP separator being incompatible with a DP34 switch).

I will run a separate line from the DP34 to serve my 508.

Thanks.
