622 DVR HDMI failure symptom?

Hi all, This is my first post.

I've enjoyed my 622 DVR for about 6 months months now with no problems.

However last night I had my HDMI mode fail. I've searched here and am
dismayed that this appears to be a fairly common problem.

My symptoms:

- Only Red and Green colors appear on the screen with vertical synch
messed up (picture distortion).

- Sometime blank screen

- Sometimes it take a long time for the Plasma TV to latch on to the signal at all.

Has anyone else had these failure symptoms? I am trying to rule out the
possibility of my nice new expensive 50 inch Pioneer Plasma falling on me.

The regular video out High Def works fine as always (although is inferior
in quality to the HDMI so I am not happy)

Thanks,

/Steve

It sounds typical for 622, probably a solder joint inside by the HDMI input. You say "Regular video out High Def"is that your component?

You mean HDMI "output" on the HDMI (solder joint)?
And, yes, regular component out Hi Def signals seem fine.
(albeiit inferior, especially on this plasma model)

Thanks,

I mean the female jack on the 622, inside where it is wired to the daughter board it tends to lose its soldered connection. As to using Component, this I have found is better then HDMI, at least with my Plasma.

Just call Dish. They know all about the HDMI issue on the 622 and will send you a replacement (as long as you're leasing).

But they first may try to tell you that it is a software problem. This has happened to many people. Just tell them that it partially works when you jiggle the plug, which means that it can't be software. Your new 622 will then be on its way shortly.

They will still tell you it is a software problem. Today was my last day of runaround with Dish, cancelled the HD service, took the cover of my 411 off to see the surface mounted HDMI Connector pulled up. Terrible design. I suggest you look at your connector and refuse the "software fix is coming" runaround. On mine, the pullup was severe enough that HDMI died completely, with a one time 10 second window where it worked again pushing on the cable.
