Hi all,

I've been a lurker here for a couple of years now...anyway, my first post, unfortunately, is about something very problematic.

We have ONE TV in the house...it's attached to a Dish 510, which, until lately, has been a flawless performer. We've had Dish and the receiver for more than two years now. It is using the existing coax cable to run from the satellite to the receiver, and I don't have a phone line attached to it.

Anyway, my wife stays at home with our son...and every now and then, they'll watch some Sesame Street or Dora or Good Eats...some live, some recorded on the DVR. My wife tells me that the reception is horrible during the day...to the point that it's pointless to even turn on the TV because the receiver gets into such a state that she can't even watch the recorded shows.

I never got a chance to actually experience the gravity of the situation until I started a new job that gave me a 9/80 schedule and allowed me to be home every other Friday...at which point, I thought I would have the opportunity to watch some TV too.

I was wrong. She was right.

Horrible reception during the day...but at night, the good reception returns.

I called Dish several times already...and they kept insisting that the Dish must be blocked by something - which it's not - It has a clear shot to the horizon.

Here's some more info:

reception on the 'reception check' tool is usually betwen 60-70 during the day...but between 100-120 at night.

Any help?

I 100% agree that the above answer is most likely it.

However, while you are waiting for an installer to bring you a new LNB, you might take a look at the dish mount and see if you can think of anything that might cause it to move during the day when it gets hot.
Or, a tree near the line of sight that might blow or sway or move differently in the light than in the night.
Even something your neighbor to the south might do in the day time...

Please see line #1 again. :)

thanks!

thanks for the help. I'll check it out...

this solution actually makes perfect sense since this only started occurring around the time of our heatwave here in SoCal.

If I call an installer to take a look at it, will I have to pay for the LNB?

thanks again!

I was gonna ask when this all started...
I know about the CA heat wave.
But, it's pretty much over.
You still having the problems?

Are you leasing the 510 or do you own it? You can always sign up for the DHPP if you own and get a $29.99 service call with free replacement of the bad LNB then cancel the service plan and save the $5.99/mo. DISH does have a very bad history of temperature sensitive LNBs.
