Dish told my dad he could not hook up his old receiver without it being connected to a phone line but he could his 311, anyone know why this is?

Hi!:welcome to satellite guys:flag:. Most likely your dad had a dual tuner receiver. Dish requires these receivers to be hooked up to the phone line for the 2nd tuner fee to be waived.. (its mostly for ppv and some interactive features) IE 322,522,625,942 and a few others. Single tuner receivers don't require a phone line. the only way around this is to pay the 2nd tuner fee witch is 4.99 I believe. :) Skibum if you have any more questions don't be afraid to pm any of the mods or post. Were here to help :)

The Residential Customer Agreement requires all receivers to be connected to a phone line but that is only enforced via an extra fee for the 4 dual-tuner dual-output receivers.

Opinions...RCA vs Optical audio?
