Hello all, I am trying to set up a portable DTV setup. I currently have a single LNB dish on top of my motorhome. That works good when there are not trees, but it does not get local channels as they come in on a different bird in Louisiana.

Now I understand that if I am out of my viewing window I will no tbe able to get locals regardless of what setup I have, but alot of my weekends are within local range.

I am not interested in HD as I don't have an HD receiver in the coach. So my question is, do I need a 2LNB dish or a 3LNB dish.

And If i get a 2LNB dish can I swap the heads with a 3LNB head. I have an old one in the garage, or are the dishes different?

But if I don't need a 3 to get standard and local channles then it don't matter.

Thanks,
Brett

There are two different types of 3 LNB dishes. The original was for 101, 110 and 119 (the 2 LNB dishes were for 110 and 119). The new 3 LNB dishes are for 99, 101 and 103. If your locals are on 119, the 2 LNB dish should work.

Most SD locals are on 101 or 119 but some are now on 99 or 103 (these are either new markets or ones which were formerly on the 72.5 satellite which required a separate dish). They not only need a dish which will see those satellites, but also need a R22, H2x or HR2x receiver, as they use MPEG4 encoding.

Curious, you probably have an antenna on the unit, can you not run the antenna line into your rec./TV in order to get the locals from where ever you may be ?

To get an answer to this question, you need to post back with your home zip code.
