So, I decided to do some tinkering with the system earlier this evening. I wanted to add my lonely Sat Radar dish and aim it for ABC News Now and also hook up my 129(echo 5) slot from my 36" DTV dish so I could get WOUB.

After adding the switches, I run into strange problems with signal levels dropping and the Diseqc system locking up and not switching to the proper ports. (1,2,3 or 4) It's not realizing it needs to switch to the proper port. It just sits there with a dead signal bar til I remind the box of it's settings.

Is this a fluke in the Coolsat 4000 or is this common with FREQUENT 22k and Diseqc switching?

This is what I wanna do with my 22k's.

22k #1 to carry G10 and Echo 5 (WOUB) to go into port 2
22k #2 to carry Echo 7 (NASA) and G28 (ABC News Now) to go into port 3
Plus I have my motorized setup into port 1.

Should I not be mixing linears and circulars into a 22k switch? Does that even matter? I've racked my brain ALL night on this.

P.S. The 22k's are going before the Diseqc switch so....I've checked all of that and I've troubleshooted bad cabling ALL over. So....I'm lost. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Unless you are using those Ecoda switches, you have to set up like this:

receiver -> DiSEqC -> 22k -> LNBF

Whether the LNBF is circular or linear doesn't matter...

Remember to disconnect the power from the receiver before making changes to the cabling on switches :)

should work fine. I have both diseqc & 22k switches in my setup (along with motorized) and ti works fine.

For a while I had
receiver----motor-----diseqc
port 1 was KU on motor
port 2 was DBS on motor
port 3 was the fixed dish at Hispasat (old SC dish) and it had to have the 22k turned on

Everything conforms to what you all have mentioned. What I'm lost at is the fact that either the receiver fails to switch ports, or the Diseqc switch fails to switch. I end up having to go into the dish settings and "remind" the receiver what the settings are each time I switched between different fixed dishes' channels.

I don't know, something is flaky. Either the receiver or the switches.

22k or Diseqc...slow switching

An update now to whats going on with the situation:

Bascially what happens is when I switch from an Equity channel on G10, to a Miami local (already FTA, not encrypted) or NASA, there is a delay in the switching.

Both sources are on separate ports of the Diseqc and separate 22k configs. Again, the config:

port 1: motorized linear
port 2: G10 & Echo 5
port 3: Echo 7 & future fixed position planned. (coax connected, just not aimed right)

It takes about 10 seconds for the receiver to realize that it is on 119. If I jump into dish settings for 119 it corrects the problem and the bars go green. Otherwise I get no signal for a few seconds if I choose not to do it. Any idea what this could be? Should I reset the box? Maybe it's just overload on TPs.

22 k or Diseqc - slow to switch

I broke this from another thread cause I'm not sure if anyone noticed the update on my situation.

LOF drift of the LNB. What takes time is; the receiver and lnb trying to get a good lock. Either adjust the LOF or Freq til it tunes right away.

Oh, you're a Miami spot-beamer, eh?

Yea, I was wondering about LNB warm-up, too.
If that circular has two outputs, why not run another cable to the other side with some power.?.
Just to keep it stable . . .

. . . or swap it out

I've heard of slow switching before. I doubt that the problem lies in your receiver. Most likely it is either a bad switch or the combination of DiSEqC and 22k switches is causing the delay.

Update:

Did a full factory reset. Same problem. This has to be the LNB. Can't quite do a swap out til I get another dish. This is one of those old skool Sony SAN18 dishes with a completely different LNB mount. I've swapped switches and checked all that stuff.

Those Sony DBS dishes were non-standard, therefore the LNBF might have some quirks as well. Swap in a more common DBS LNBF and see if that solves the problem...

it does sound like it could be the LNB...I have seen those Sony ones screw up even on a Dish subscription :)
