I want to put a 211 in my motorhome and add an external harddrive. Since I will be using this without 120 volt land connecton and running off an inverter and RV storage batteries I need to draw as little power as possible. Could anyone suggest a harddrive that would take less power? I was thinking a laptop type harddrive rather than a full size harddrive. Could I run a laptop external usb harddrive that would only power from the 211 USB port? Any ideas appreciated.

Well, the WD "green" series does, or claims to, but I believe this is thru methods such as spinning down. Not a good match for DVR use.

A pure sine wave converter might be best, but probably is not needed for this since the drive will run off DC (wall wart). But stepped wave might toast the wart sooner.
