2015 Dish Price Increase

DISH has had a price increase just about every year for the last 10 years. There was a year where we had a "price freeze" in 2010, but then the receiver fees increased instead. So there was still an increase.

Top 120 (with out rsn) in 2003 was $29.99 /in 2014 it is $54.99 * and it is expected to go up to $59.99 in January of 2015 - a $5.00 increase.

Top 120+( WITH rsn) in 2004 was $34.99 / in 2014 it is $59.99 * and it is expected to go up to $64.99 in January of 2015 - a $5.00 increase.

Top 200 in 2003 was $39.98 /in 2014 it is $69.99 * and it is expected to go up to $74.99 in January of 2015 - a $5.00 increase.

Top 250 in 2003 was $48.98 /in 2014 it is $79.99 * and it is expected to go up to $84.99 in January of 2015 - a $5.00 increase .

AEP in 2003 was $79.99 / in 2014 Jan. was $124.99 and now in November of 2014 it went up to $126.99 * and is expected to go up to $131.99 in January of 2015 - a $5.00 increase.
 
The restructuring is with their new NuTv service. Its like a new start. A chance to get channels for a reasonable price and not pickup channels that are not reasonably priced or in demand. This allows them to keep cost down and not having the cost of satellite and installers as a delivery method. They could split the service off from Dish just like they did with Echostar if its successful enough.
 
AEP would be a $7 increase and surpass Directv's Premier package by $2
of course those prices doesn't tell the whole story without equipment fees

Directv and Dish has become the Verizon and AT&T of high prices as wireless.
 
DISH has not become the expensive alternative they are exact opposite, and saying it over and over again doesn't make it true. So DISH will raise prices and no one else will?
So I guess I will repeat it over and over again. I save about $175 or more a year over Direct TV or probably any other Cable alternative. With Direct TV that's like equipment and package, two VIP receivers and top250. With many Cable alternatives that's actually with better equipment from DISH. Lets stop making up things and try using actual figures as I did with Direct TV.
And in any scenario DISH costs less - often MUCH less than Charter would where I am in CT.

Even your analogy of using At&t (Cellular) is skewed by the way.
 
For you,me and many in this forum maybe but for everyone else it's too damn expensive
It all sounds nice when one sees the promos and probably weren't aware of reg price after the first year

I know a lot of people mostly family members that don't have TV service, when they have more important bills to pay
I may end up a cord cutter sooner or later, but I'll have to do a lot of convincing to my wife and kids

So it's not just Dish I criticize but Directv as well with all their bulls--t fees and stupid lease fees even if you own your receiver, Only thing they are generious for is bill credits and programming discounts which I wouldn't even know if it wasn't for this forum and dbstalk.

Don't get me wrong Dish and Directv are the top best TV providers by far with equipment that far surpasses cable TV, and even lower priced than Comcast in this area
with the Hopper that's the best receiver by far with Tivo second and Genie third IMO

of course all sounds nice if price is reasonable for many, but for me personally it's a decent price until it reaches the breaking point which is not too far away.

Keep in mind that even though the name of the package has remained the same the amount of channels and types of channels have changed over the years. Just because it says Top 120 doesn't mean that it has the same 120 channels. That package has closer to 200 channels and some channels that were in higher tiers have been dropped down to that package.

So, with the addition of channels and the increase of cost to these channels of coarse you're going to see an increase every year.

And how do you know how DitrecTV handles their contracts with networks? Do know when DirecTV is having talks with the networks and negotiating prices? Just because DirecTV doesn't always let it get to the point where the channels get pulled doesn't mean they aren't having the same talks with the networks and trying to make the same deals.

Stop assuming that you know what it takes to run a business like Dish or DirecTV or any TV provider for that matter.

I don't have to KNOW HOW TO RUN DISH OR DIRECTV I just have to know how thin my budget is. I would like to upgrade to a 622/722 but I'm not going to do anything until I see an official price increase. Then I will have to decide if I will be OTA only.

I've already got a Tivo HD with a good programming guide and a 612 with a lousy OTA tuner and a poor Guide for OTA channels. It is a thin line between staying and leaving DISH.

In the last ABC/Disney dispute, if DISH not renew contract and remove all ESPN/DISNEY/ABC Family there a saving of $10.00 per month; at least $5.00 pass to customer and the rest for avoid increase.

Hopper Cosmetically and UI is pretty vs genie or Tivo, but some function look worse.
Missing key feature:
1.not buffer when turn-on.
2.no record from start automatically if you decide to keep them while you are in the middle of the program. (you need to "rewind" live tv).
3.If you start or stop the record you lost the buffer.
4.sometime the function to extend the record not work (press rec while recording).

And that's exactly what you should do. If you can't afford it then drop it. The people who keep complaining are just wasting their time. It's just like when people complain about everything else being too expensive. It's true that some things are outrageously priced but that's the way it is, either pay for it or don't get it. For once I'd like to hear people be thankful for what they do have instead of complaining about how much they have to pay for luxuries.

I was just talking to my cousin who just got back from Australia. You want to hear about crazy prices, she said a case of decent beer there was like $40. Now that's just ridiculous.
 
$40 American? What was the exchange rate? I could have paidd that when I was in England, but the exchange was also $1=£0.35. Somewhere in that ballpark.

AT130 $64.99, Hopper fee $13.00, Joe fee: $8.00, 4K fee $10.00
2018
AT130 $74.99, Hopper fee $14.00, Joe and 4K same.
Welcome pack $29.99, HBO $24.99, Cinemax $19.99...

Sorry, but the day I start thanking businesses for taking my money is the day THEY "win" and I "lose". We have money to spend on this stuff because we go out and work for it (well, most of us). Nothing wrong with being careful about where that money goes.

Are we all pretty fortunate to be in a first-world country where TV prices and programming are a topic for discussion (as opposed to where we get our next meal)? Sure. Does that mean that I'm happy to have my TV bill go up by 5 bucks every year to infinity? NO!

Well you should thank businesses because without them everyone goes poor and hungry. You don't have to be happy with an increase in your bill but it helps to understand why bills go up. You can just change providers or do something different altogether or entertainment in your house. What's wrong with appreciating what you have and if it's not getting the job done for you just make a change.

Sometimes I think some people just think the world is out to get them and screw them over.
