2008-09 College Bowl Season

The biggest loser in this whole deal besides Oklahoma and everyone else who got cheated by the BCS is Georgia. They were preseason #1. This was supposed to be their year. Now they have to endure another Florida NC on top of the two LSU has won. Top it all off both Stafford and Moreno are going pro.

Insider, now that you've shown up, I'll give some thoughts:

1. I've had a tendency to blow up over bad losses, but I'll congratulate you. Your team did won.

2. The game basically boiled down to three plays- the two interceptions, and that goal-lie stand.

3. Is it just me, or are the announcers just a bit over-the-top when it came to praising Tebow?

4. I guess Florida shut me up- for months and months, I had said Florida's defense was terrible and that they had been facing nothing but pathetic popguns. I was wrong- I'll admit it.

5. Last time Florida won the national title, they were forgotten by the summer of 2006, with the semi-annual USC overkill. Do you think Florida would be better off if more or less people favor them to repeat?

6. Now that the season is over, tell me where and when next year's national title game will be.

1. We did win, and we won the way we said we would. On defense. That very critical stop at the goal line, and then the interceptions and blocked field goal.

2. Agreed

3. They are hyping the guy because he is a tremendous player, their is no way he is not in the top 10 all time in college, id venture to say in the top 5. That 4th quater was all teabow. Where was Bradford the 'heisman' winner? Bradford earned it dont want to take anything away from him, but I think this game may show that if OU played in the SEC bradfords numbers may not of been as great... And BTW Which guy was it that said Teabow would only be #4 QB in the big 12?

4. Well with the lack of "great" teams in the SEC this year one would assume the way you did.

5. Last time FLA won a title the following year they lost 2 games and got their ass kicked by Mich in the Citrus bowl. Of course that was Teabows "rookie" year as starting QB, and FLAs defense was mostly freshman as well. Next year if Teabow returns they will still have a tough fight, losing Brandon Spikes, Harvin and some big play makers. They should be preseason #1 but Id prefer not (its usally a curse)

6. Someone already Answered. The Rose Bowl.. Id love to see FLA vs USC....

The Big 12's reputation also lost out.

I admit- I had been saying they are too explosive, too fast, too powerful. I thought the SEC was a slow, plodding conference and that their "speed" was overrated.

I have to live that down for EIGHT FREAKING MONTHS!

Dont worry ill be here to help you through it ;)

As I said previously, given tonight's results, that speech is now the modern-day verion of Knute Rockne's 'Gipper Speech.'

He said it, and it turned out to be true.

My opinion on the 3D cross-posted from another site...

Here are my thoughts on the presentation tonight. I see a lot of potential but they have a ways to go. For those of us who remember what the football looked like before FOX threw 20 overlays on up the screen, this was a nice blast from the past. In short, no running clock (although they did their best to show the play clocks in their shots of the action), no yellow 1st down line, and no frills. They would flash an occasional overlay of stats and coming in and out of TV TOs they would show the score and time left on the clock. As for my fears....They had the FOX "B" crew down the game (Kenny Albert and Tim Ryan) and 7.1 sound (anyone else who saw this want to hunt down and shoot the lady that kept screaming her name in the right rear speaker the whole 2nd half?). Now for the bad. Not sure if this was national but the glasses didn't work unless you had them on upside down. Checked with management and they checked the glasses in another 3D screen and they were fine, they also said they didn't change anything with their projectors so I am left to guess that they uplinked the images in reverse. They also had A LOT of trouble in the 1st part of the 3rd Quarter with what reminded me of rain fade on the sat. We didn't have bad weather here tonight so I'm interested if it was national. Finally, whenever they'd move the cameras too fast the image would jump and almost force your eyes to cross. At times they seemed scared to move the cameras at all so a lot of punt returns were missed...and it was obviously being filmed by tech geeks who had no experience with filming football as A LOT of play action passes and draws ended up out of frame. In their defense, they were obviously using the game as an experiment since it seemed like the shots got better as the game finished up.

Now the good... I didn't think much of it at first but it really made it's mark when I got home and turned on Sportscenter....the image at home seemed small and flat. Going from 3D to home theater in an hour really eliminates any thought of "pop" to the home picture. The content of the feed when it was "on" was awesome. I think they ran one Playstation ad a half and in the quarters that ad didn't run, they had some amazing 3D surfing/beach filler. The highlight from a PQ standpoint was in the postgame. The confetti looked like you could reach out and grab it as did the crystal NC ball. If they use footage from it as a trailer for what they can do, the Nelson TD catch on the Tebow jump pass is a surefire eye-popper. You saw him make the catch and then run right at you/the camera in crystal clear clarity. (The 3D cameras were opposite the HD cameras.) One other highlight shot would be when the Sooner Schooner (or whatever the wagon is called) came out during introductions.

In short, I think they will need to work on lowering the premium of the ticket down to $5 over a standard movie ticket in order to reach the masses. Their next sporting event is NBA Sat night. If I was a fan, I'd consider going at a lower price. OTOH, I would probably pay $25 to see the MLB All-Star game (maybe $20 for the HR derby)...which since it's FOX could happen. The one question I have is whether this will be released on Blu-Ray (even if it is just with the cheapo Blue/Red 3D glasses.) If it is, I'd highly recommend those of you who are sports fans or even those of you who are curious about 3D to go out and buy it.

I sat behind a UF grad and his buddy...we all were commenting about Jesus Tebow's taunting at the end of the game and whether that was very Christianlike. I have a feeling that lapse of judgement has put an end to all of the squeaky clean all-american boy talk about him.

Here is my 2 cents in last nights game:

- Last night once against proved that OFFENSE gets you to the championship, but DEFENSE wins it for you. The really cool/eerie thing about last nights finall score....the OU defense gave up and AVERAGE of 24.7 points per game and UF, 14.6!!!

- Last night ALSO proved that all those HUGE QB numbers in the Big 12 are inflated against a conference that plays almost ZERO defense. Like I stated before, IF the Big 12 conference had teams that can play defense, none of the QB would be throwing TD passes in the 30s and 40s.

- I am not a Gator fan whats so ever...but Tim Teabow could be the greatest college football player of all time when all is said and done. He WILLS his team to win like no other. He has a college resume right now second to none WITH ONE MORE YEAR LEFT!

- Percy Harvin will be an absolute STUD at the next level! He was only at 75% to 85% healthy at game time and he STILL the fastest guy on the field....by a country mile! Honorable mention to Jermaine Gresham, he TOO will be an animal in the NFL.

- Urban Meyer, and I really don't like him, has to be the smartest coach in ALL of college football. In the press conference JUST AFTER winning the national championship, he says: "You gotta be freakin' crazy NOT to wanna play for the University of Florida!! The guy was thinking of recruiting just MINUTES after winning the championship and using the ULTIMATE recruiting tool!

- And finally, the so-called "would be the 4th best QB in the Big 12" totally outplayed the so-called 'best QB in the Big 12' AND the Heisman Trophy winner.
THAT is why he did what he did late in the game and expressed an over emphatic gator gesture.

....Take THAT Dominque Franks, and stick it in your trophy case....! LOL!:D

A few thoughts on the MNC.......

-Congratulations to Florida. 2 Championships in 3 years. Way to go.

-Was this game just another example of what happens to an offensive powerhouse when facing a good defense or was this another example of a team being out of tune from the 6 week layoff? IMO, it was a combination of both.

-Anyone else left hungry for more College Football? Even though #1 Florida won, I'm not 100% convinced they are the best team in the land. And blame the current non-playoff system for these lingering questions. I'd love for Florida to play USC.

The so-called 'weeks layoff' thing is nothing but an excuse waiting for the taking. BOTH teams just about had the same time off....both teams teams would have been 'out of tuned'. I looked at like a heavyweight championship fight....two fighters with knockout punches sizing each other...making adjustments. NEITHER of these teams faced a team like each other....there was gonna be a feeling out process and the coaches that did the best job of making adjustments was gonna win.

...I will officially back off from my statement that Utah SHOULD be #1. I changed my mind...and think Florida is. I can live with the AP poll, which I think is the most accurate of all the polls.

1) Florida
2) Utah
3) USC
4) Texas
5) Oklahoma

Given that Florida and LSU won the last two national titles in what basically seemed like a HOME GAME, I'm a little bitter.

Just once, I want to see a national title game between two teams playing in a stadium that is NOT affiliated with their conference. (In other words, I'd like to see an SEC/Big 12 title game whereever the next title game is)
Already happened, the 2007 Season BCS Championship was held in the Fiesta Bowl. No conference tie-in for either team, and neither team was remotely from the area.

Same result: SEC Champion Florida ran all over Ohio St. 41-14.

There's a whole thread here for that game. It includes the predictions of Ohio St. greatness, the SEC fans saying it won't happen, the SEC fans saying I told you so, and finally the Ohio St. excuses (my favorite being "we should have played Michigan instead because we barely beat them", in other words "we know we can beat Michigan but are afraid of what Florida could (and did) do to us."

I am gratefull that Big 12 fans don't get into the excuse making that Big 10 fans do. If defense was up to par in the Big 12 like it is in the SEC, I be very worried about playing those teams.

Congrats to the Gators for a great game. Sooners were the 2nd best team on the field last night. OU showed flashes of greatness, and could have been up 21-7 at the half with some better execution at the goal line. I think those two 4th-and-goal tries were because OU has no confidence in their kick coverage, and decided that 3 points and a kick was too risky.

Again, the Gators are the whole package. Offense, defense, special teams. That points to excellent coaching. I give it up to Urban Meyer for running an outstanding football program. He may jump over Nick Saban in my rankings of best college football coach.

The AP poll is a lot better than the coaches:

Coaches Poll
1) Florida
2) USC
3) Texas
4) Utah
5) Oklahoma

The coaches pretty much robbed Utah. You can pretty much see that conference loyalty rules, based on how the coaches voted.

I agree with the top 5 in the AP, with the possible exception of Florida & Utah. While I believe that Florida would probably beat Utah, Utah is the one that is undefeated and did better against a very recent common opponent.
Utah 31, Alabama 17 <-- 1/01/09 Sugar Bowl
Florida 31, Alabama 20 <-- 12/06/08 SEC Championship

DAMN. I thought AP put Utah #2! My bad. I think by NOT putting Utah at #2, you are totally ignoring the fact that they went undefeated AND they easily beat a team that was #1 in the country for almost half the season. I will go with my original ranking.

They did, the top 5 I listed were the Coaches.
*I've edited the post to clarify that*

Time for College football playoffs?
