its been 2 years sine the hs17 was released
its time for something newer, something to actually compete with the hopper3
att is lagging
They have no reason to compete with their only rival? They absolutely need to compete with Dish. 90% of their advertising over the last 25 years has been against Dish. One commercial after another has them directly comparing themselves against Dish. It's just that DirecTV is gone and ATT is a phone company. Either compete or give up or merge.
The percentage of customers who need more than 7 tuners is very small (and they can be handled via HRx4 and HR2x) Maybe AT&T believes it isn't worth the investment to serve such a small market segment, even if they are more lucrative.
Directv is never going to release a DVR with more than 7 usable tuners - the HS17 has 16 but doesn't expose them all for reasons we are all familiar with. The way to support more would be to allow more than one HS17 on an account. Maybe they will do that someday, maybe not.
The idea that because Dish offers something Directv must to "compete" is ridiculous. If Ford offered an version of the Explorer with bulletproof glass to consumers paranoid about all the shootings would Chevy and GM have to match that offering with their SUVs? Or would Ford serving a small segment of the market not bother them?
I don't think they have a need to offer a follow on to the HS17 until there are some real 4K channels and the limit of two 4K TVs at once becomes an issue.
It was 5 years before the HS17 came out after the HR44 Not sure where this 2 year timeline has come fromits very difficult to get an hr54/nr24 setup
directv wants the hs17 installed
look at history
dish brings out the hopper with 3 tuners
directv countered with the genie and 5 tuners
4k tvs are selling much faster than hd tvs did, heck for anything over 40inch i dont know if you can even find anything other than 4k
anyway, its been 2 years, something should be coming out
where is that fabled 4k wireless mini?
where is the hs27 thats been alluded to in documents?

Directv IS ATT Time to accept itdish is still the primary competitor for directv
for att, maybe not.
ATT will gladly let that 15% go to take market share from everyone elsethey are for the 15% of the country that has no other choice and cannot stream
ATT will gladly let that 15% go to take market share from everyone else
Oh i agree but that wasnt my pointMaybe so, but with all the ‘new’ subscription types and prices, it isn’t looking to me like they have a clue how to gain market share. Losing market share is more likely.

Of course 4k TV's are selling much better ... you can't barely find a Non 4k TV ...its very difficult to get an hr54/nr24 setup

I get it is hard to accept but it isnt going to happen If you want Hopper style technology then switch to Dishcompete with 1 company for that 15%
or 100000000 companies for the rest (cable, cord cutting, streaming, ect ect
