2 Units and one remote how to stop both from responding

We had a cpl weeks worth of stuff recorded on our old HR-20. When the tech replaced my old HR-20 with the new HR-22 the tech left our old box here so we could watch the stuff we already had recorded before we send the old box back. Both boxes are in the same spot so when I try to use the remote on the old box the new box is also reacting to the remote. Is there a setting or option I can change on the new box so that when we are watching the old box that the new box doesn't also respond? I tried just powering down the new box via the pwr button but when I hit certain buttons it insists on waking up and the only way I've been able to get it to not react is walk over to do things via the front panel buttons which being disabled is a bit of a chore/challenge for me.

Simple fast solution is cover the HR22 eye with black tape, easily removable.
