118.7 (Dish Plus) Migration Notes

please Dish put up more MOVIE channels. People who want old fashion tv should get it the old fashioned way. With an OTA!!

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. Find me an OTA antenna that gets "old fashion tv" (local networks) at any price at my house and I'll shut up. Until then, I hope that E* remembers the reasons that DBS came to be - to serve areas where cable and OTA are not viable ways of receiving television signals.

Double amen !
pabeader obviously has no clue beyond his own small footprint of existence or he would make such an asinine statement.

LyngSat is reporting that Anik F3 has arrived at 118.7 W so perhaps Dish will get use of it a few days sooner than planned.

According the short notice what Scott posted, Anik F3 have 27 MHz transponders with higher output and FEC will be increased from 1/2 to 2/3; but drawback came after using old 36 MHz transponders - SR will be down to 20 from 26. Still unclear for me ( I will check later when new NIT will be populated) how they will keep same parameters for Turbo QPSK of transponder(s) with HD channels.

ANIK-F3 Satellite/118.7 Migration
...Our analysis shows this should not be significant. There will be a greater impact on 8 MAs in southern portions of California, Texas, Louisiana and Florida who will convert from SuperDish to D500+ for installations after the changeover. The offices serving these MAs have already been notified and will receive a separate, more detailed communication on requirements for the change. ...
Did I miss something? SuperDish receives 121 (or 105).

Is there another SuperDish? Or, are they planning on stopping programming on 121?

"who will convert from SuperDish to D500+"

Smity,

They will convert customers that had a SuperDish to D500+. The Internationals that were at 121 have been moved to 118.7.

Very easy to convert a Superdish to 500+
I get 118 on my 105 sd, just remove the LNB assy and put on a 118/119 assy from a 500+or 1000+ and reain dish
Only mod is drill new holes in LNB arm

Ok here you go...

This is from Dish...

Effective May 4, 2007, subscribers in the DMAs listed in Table 1 below will NO LONGER REQUIRE a 121 SuperDISH antenna to view the International programming listed in Table 2 below. Please be aware that this list of DMAs is subject to change.

The International programming listed in Table 2 below and previously available in the listed DMAs only from the 121° orbital location will move to the 118.7° orbital location requiring a DISH 500+ or DISH 1000+. Therefore, effective May 4, 2007,

Please note that pending further notice, existing customers in the listed DMAs who currently subscribe to any of the International programming listed in Table 2 below may continue to use their 121 SuperDISH antenna.

The tables are shown below...

I've been waiting on the Repoint Kits myself, one for my account in New Orleans, and one for my Denver account, before doing any changes to programming. I've thought about buying just the LNB assembly and then do the drilling, but have been waiting.

Maybe I'll buy a Dish 500+, and then put my SuperDish 121 on a motor and program it to sweep back and forth all day like a radar and keep the neighbors wondering.:D

Thanks for the update Scott.

EDIT:
118.7 has all 6 Korean channels, while 121 only has 4 of the 6.
Maybe they will put these PI Channels on 118.7 :eureka :eureka
