1080p?

I have an HR24 and the light on the front under the resolution is always on 1080i, is there a way for it to be on 1080p? Whats the difference?

Right. However, I seriously doubt you could tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p, as your TV will upscale everything to 1080p anyway.

I have noticed that some cinema stuff does not look all that better in 1080p. DirecTV says all of their Cinema 1080p output is supposed to be like blu-ray but it ain't so.

to be honest there isn't anything like blu ray. some things may come close or be real good but you can tell when you're watching bluray content

Actually what they say is it's the same resolution as BluRay, which is correct. It's not the same bitrate, though. That's where the difference is.
