Don't get your hopes up for a release anytime soon, DirecTV's 1080p demo failed miserably at the CEDIA show in Denver yesterday.

First, I asked their rep why the image was so jitterey and jerky, and he said "oh, well this isn't a good demonstration. Let me put something else on". As he proceeded to navigating up and down their demo list on the DVR, he resumed the same program that was previously playing. Same result. I told him that it still had problems, which he then told me "oh, well, it's probably the monitor" which was an 46" LG LCD. Then said "you're standing too close to the screen and you need to step back about 20 feet." as the rep walked away.

A still imaged worked okay, but any type of movement looked horrible.

They actually pulled the demo today at the show and just left it on ESPN HD all day... (see attached pic)

I would rather stick to Blu-ray for 1080p content. I don't see DTV or Dish Network's 1080p movies being quite as good as picture quality as Blu-ray discs. The bitrates will still be lower than on a Blu-ray disc won't it?

It doesn't have to be lower.

They need to get this fixed ASAP.. I have verifyed that my tv accepts 1080P/24/30/60 from more than one source. It seems that the D* box is the only one that it has issues with with a lack of picture and sound.

Mine and many others are working fine so it can't be a system-wide or receiver-wide issue. More user specific.

1080P/24 is working okay with my HR21-100 connected directly to my Samsung PN50A650 Plasma using the latest CE... but not when going through my Denon AV receiver that supports 1080P. They areworking on it and it is still in the early stages so give it some time ;)

While it wont equal BR, especially not the HD audio, it does look good. Im not going to fault D* for giving us the most they can.

Would you rather have 1080i PPV or the option of 1080p/24 PPV. Having 1080p/24 as an option hurts us in no way and it looks better than the 1080i PPV.
