I asked Iceberg the following question and he suggested that I pose the question to all of you.

Current setup is a 1000+ dish (110-118.75-119-129) with the 129 portion disconnected with a cable running to the 24" dish for 129 -- done by the DISH installer when we were having issues with the old 129.

Running thru a DPP44 switch to 2-vip211s.

My question...IF I could see the 77 could I add another dish and what extra parts would I need?

I'm pretty sure that trees make this a moot point, but can it be done? 5 sats...and can a person add 77 without creating an issue with the DISH programming department.

Thanks in advance.

Bruce

You would need a single dish pointed at 77 (with a dishpro LNB) plus a DP21, the output of the DPP44 would go into the Dish 1 input and the output of the 77 LNB would go into the Dish 2 input, then the out into the receiver. You will need a DP21 for each tuner, if more than one tuner you will need a DP Splitter. My setup is an EA Dish and a Dish 1000+. I have 61.5, 110, 118, and 119 into the DPP44, then 129 into a DP Splitter. I have a dual tuner 722, so I have to use 2 lines from the DPP44 (one output into each DP21) then the split output of 129 from the DP splitter into each DP21. I hope I didn't ramble too much, if you have any questions let me know :)

What is the motive for wanting to add 77 to your setup?

This is very interesting and unique. What are the advantages to this setup?

61.5 for PI channels (I actually got into the pentagon channel, and the Health and Human Services channel for H1N1 updates) and some RSN's
110 and 119 for All American Direct Distants (SD and HD)
118 for International (I have the French Package, most of those channels have English subtitles, pretty good movies on Eurochannel)
129 for HD and some HDPPV (I watch a lot of PPV) My receiver picks 129 for the HD instead of 61.5, I assume because of higher signal, comes in handy during storms.

I couldn't figure out the need for 5 satellite locations, I see now. That is definitely unique.

Must be for the HD ConUS locals on 77. I have 77 outside too in case I "move" to one of those cities on 77 during football season :). I'm ready for that new switch that will support 6 sats

St Louis

What do you need AAD for If you have 118 for the French package get your locals from St Louis, Mo in HD for a lot less (by "moving"). I don't know where the Sd versions of St Louis is but why does anyone care? BTW St. Louis also get the CW in HD as well.

I have AAD for football, having SF and NY in SD, plus Chicago and LA in HD comes in handy for NFL games. Also, I have tried "moving" to one of the cities on 118, but since they're also on Spotbeams, the receiver keeps switching between the sats. So if I goto the channel one time Ill get "Not in designated viewing area", then the next time Ill get the channels. It's not worth it, right now I'm using an address from Chattanooga, TN, whose HD locals are 61.5. Like I said, I have a line from the Eastern Arc for 77, just in case I want to move to one of the cities that has HD locals on it. I paid for 6 months of Distants from AAD, which will take me into February. Once that runs out, I'll be dropping them, all but CBS for March Madness :). BTW, the HD distants from AAD have come down in price. They're still high, but if you buy 6 months you get 30% off. The women I spoke to gave me 6 months of all 4 networks from Chicago and LA bundled for $129.

So it's sports

So now it is revealed it's really sports your looking for. St.Louis is Conus not spotbeamed. There are no spotbeams on 118.7 you probably ran into black outs. Look at the subscription list on that one http://www.satelliteguys.us/thelist/index.php?search=dn118&sub=true

No it's not blackouts, I know 118 is ConUS, its the receiver that is switching satellites on me. So lets say I put it on a St. Louis HD local, the receiver might use 118, or might try to pull it off 129 which is spot beamed. Depending on what the RECEIVER does, is what depends on if ill get the channel. The problem is is that one channel number is mapped to 3 different satellites. If you live in the DMA like youre supposed to, I guess it wouldnt be an issue :)

correct on no spotbeams on 118.7

BUT

all those locals are mapped now on other sats which the dish receiver probably forces it to check the other sat (129 probably). Check the REAL list

SatelliteGuys.US - Dish Network ALL

6453-6457 are the local for St Louis
theyre on 118.7, 61.5 AND 129

go through to 6486 and you'll see those locals are on multiple sats....got dollars to donuts Dish receivers force it to try 129 or 61.5 unless you dont have those sats (D500+)

If there is no signal strength on the say 129 & 61.5 isn't hooked up then doesn't it take only the 118.7 signal?

If 118 only is hooked up it will take it, but I have 61.5, 118 and 129. And I think I do have signal on the transponders those St. Louis locals are on, it just happens to be a different spotbeam, I dont think the receiver knows this :)

Will let you know tomorrow

probably not. The receiver may not be smart enough to try and grab another satellite. I honestly dont know

I'm about to find out tonight. I've just gotten a 500+ dish w/feed for 118/119 that I'm putting on a 33" dish & will be peaking it tonight to find out. In the real area where I live E* only carries SD version of NBC & ABC. It carries no CW at all & OTA is SD. So if it doesn't work I will have a 500+ for sale tomorrow if it does will still have the dish for sale but will be keeping the feed.
