BACKGROUND: I just moved into a rental house and will be staying here for only one year. The house has a satellite dish already installed on the roof. There are two wires going from the dish: one to the living room and one to the bedroom. I have one TV in the living room and one in the bed room. I do not have landline phone service (I use cell phones only). I cannot install additional cabling (landlord restriction).

QUESTION: I am trying to decide how to use Dish Network services cheaply in this situation. Here are the questions I have:

1. Should I go for a 2 yr contract or no commitment? I have no idea where I will be next year and so do not know if I will be able to continue using Dish.

2. Can I just buy a couple of 301 receivers off Ebay and avoid the $99 installation (and $5 no-phone charge)?

3. Is it possible to use the 625 DVR box (if I have to pay the $99 install fee) in one room and have it service both rooms? Keep in mind that there is only one cable going from the outside into each room. My understanding is that this will require a $5 no phone fee per month.

Based on the dish builder web site it appears that my only option is to have the Dish guys come in and install one 311 receiver in each of the two rooms. I will have to pay a $99 fee even though the dish satellite dish and cabling have been taken care of.

1. No commitment. If you can't guarantee you'll get it after next year, the hundred bucks now is cheaper than the cost of breaking the contract.

2. I think so. But then again I thought if you want to open the account at least one receiver needs to be from Dish directly. So I don't know. The no-phone-line only applies to dual tuner models though.

3. Yes, you'll play $5 extra for no phone line.

The 625 will cost the same per month as two 311's. The 311 will be free, the second will be $5 per month. Or you'll pay the same - $5 - for the no-phone line fee on the 625.
