    New HD antenna RG5 ok?

It's unfortunate YOU would post such incorrect information. DirecTV signals have IF frequencies from the OTA band (for the DirecTV b-band satellites DirecTV 10 and 11) up to 2.15Ghz, thay are absolutely NOT below OTA. I don't know where your information came from but it's completely wrong.

    Multipath Antenna Problem

Yes, if you have very long cables you are correct. I agree with you that the CM4228 would be overkill, and in any case as I said would not necessarily solve the multipath problem (if that is what it is). And yes, I fully agree with you on the channel 6 issue. The CM4228 will do a very poor job...

    Multipath Antenna Problem

If you really do have a multipath problem you need a very directional antenna. The CM4228 (and other bow-tie designs) although they are fairly directional they are not good in multipath situations. You really need to be using a yagi design. What antenna are you using at the moment? Using your...

    Real and Virtual Channel Numbers

No, the FCC does not "want" 2-6 VHF-lo. Any TV station was allowed to request 2-6 if it wanted and a number of stations whose analog channel was on 2-6 decided to put their digital station there. The FCC simply pointed out that there were issues with 2-6 and that stations might find things...

    Real and Virtual Channel Numbers

I am sure this was an NAB idea. IMHO it creates a real mess. It may have been OK pre-transition, where a station was using two different frequencies - one for analog and one for digital - and wanted to retain the analog channel number as its identity. But if the digital channel is going to stay...

    MNT902W vs CM3671

The OP will not have any VHF-lo stations after the transition so it's not necessary to have something that large. The Winegard 769 series that I recommended is essentially the same as the HD7xxx series but without the elements for VHF-lo. That makes the antenna significantly narrower, and lighter.

Best indoor OTA antenna recommendations wanted, Thanks

I think you mean the weak point of the 4228 is narrower beam width, not the 4221. Higher gain equals narrower beamwidth, it's just the physics. High gain antennas that you need for fringe reception all have narrower beamwidth than lower gain antennas.

    MNT902W vs CM3671

I went to tvfool and input your zip code - you'll get a better result with your address. After the digital transition it looks like you will have three VHF-hi stations, but no VHF-lo stations. An ideal antenna for you would seem to be one from the new Winegard range that cover 7-69 like the...

    MNT902W vs CM3671

What's your zip code - will you need VHF-lo or VHF-hi after the digital transition in Feb 2009? The DB8 is definitely UHF only, the CM4228 has some VHF-hi performance but only for strong stations.

    different signal strengths on subchannels

Actual signal strength will be the same on all subchannels, because it's the same signal. However, the signal "strength" shown on the signal meter isn't strength at all, it's a measure of the signal "quality" (including bit error rate). I suppose it is possible, if the signal meter is actually...

    Dumb antenna question

No, the mesh is at the back and the bowties point towards the transmitters. There are no dumb questions (only dumb answers)!

    Reception Range?

You're starting from the wrong end of the issue. When agreeing to frequencies, power etc for digital stations, the general objective was to give a station approvals that would allow it to have the same coverage for its full-power digital station as it does today for its analog station. The FCC...

    Need help choosing OTA antenna

I agree. Dave, if you are desperate to use the CM4221, get one, but don't be surprised if in 2009 you are back looking for another antenna. Otherwise go and buy the CM4228, which is almost certainly the right choice for your situation. But don't keep looking for reassurances that the CM4221...

    OTA Antenna Advice ?

Antennaweb says that KLAS and KTV are much weaker signals for you than the other two, even though they are only six miles away. Probably none of the OTA web sites are going to be accurate enough for your situation, it sounds like just a hundred yards could have a major impact on the reception...

First, you should look at/post in the Las Vegas HDTV forum to see what other people are using. Las Vegas, NV - HDTV - Page 191 - AVS Forum You have two problems. The biggest problem is not the spread of the stations (although it needs to be considered when selecting an antenna), it's that you...

    OTA Antenna Advice ?

If they are digital stations they are probably not VHF. The channel number you see is the "virtual" channel number, not the actual one. If you enter the customers zip code at a site like antennaweb, you will see both the virtual and actual channels listed. The problem your customer might have in...

    Need help choosing OTA antenna

Yes, the DB4 is similar to the CM4221 (except more expensive). From your rabbit-ears test, it looks like the CM4221 will not work well. But ask your neighbor if he can check the analog channels 7 thru 13 for you with his DB4, if he has an analog tuner TV.

    Does CM4221 get Upper VHF?

I don't think we are disagreeing very much. If you are close to the transmitters, close enough that "rabbit ears" will give a very strong signal, then the CM4221 might be OK (hence my suggestion to Dave). And having the wider beamwidth is certainly an advantage sometimes. Dave has almost every...

    Does CM4221 get Upper VHF?

Almost any UHF antenna will get some reception on VHF-hi. But if you look at the antenna performance charts in Comparing some commercially available antennas , the CM4221 is only better than "rabbit ears" at the very highest channels, and the gain drops off dramatically as you move down the...

    Need help choosing OTA antenna

Your signal strength meter will probably not give any readings when you are receiving analog signals. None of your digitals are currently using VHF so that's why it's useful to see if you CAN receive VHF-hi signals with just "rabbit ears".

    Does CM4221 get Upper VHF?

You already have a complete thread running on your antenna selection issue, http://www.satelliteguys.us/hd-over-air-ota/106674-need-help-choosing-ota-antenna.html I am not sure why you are double-posting. The answer is that the CM4221 does not have good VHF-hi coverage. Look at the chart...
