Do you wear glasses or contacts or don't you?

None right now. I have been waiting 14 months for them to do my cataract surgery. 2 weeks to go, yay. Why does it take so long for any medical procedure these days. I mean, really, 14 months from diagnosis to surgery?

A well-rounded embedded engineer? Discussion of Engineering and Software areas of study

I have been trying to wrap my head around a response for several hours without success. The p r oblem is that the picture you paint is very broad. I see areas you mention as essential where an engineer in a subfield wouldn't need to know or care. At the same time I see a few holes that any...

Post any unpopular opinions that you have that aren't political or religious...

When I got my MSEE in 1977, I chose HP because they made stuff nobody else could make. When I left HP in 2001 They only sold stuff nobody else would bother with. I was on the instrument side. I looked at a Keysite catalog in 2015. Nearly everything in there was something I had worked with...

Map shows which counties are home to the highest number of excessive drinkers in the United States

Lived there once. As I recall, a big chunk of the drinking was sampling the local vineyards. Here in Wisconsin it is beer. Lots of beer. Tavern on every block. Beer gardens in all the parks in summer. Huge bidding war for rights to run the bar on the beach on Lake Michigan

    Bringing Home a Puppy...on Sunday.

Yeah. My girlfriend is vegetarian, but we cook a couple of whole chickens and 2-3 large beef roasts every week to feed her terriers. Plus sweet potatoes, rice, spinach, eggs, etc. Those dogs have never eaten from a can.

    This kid was SO lucky...

I recall an incident from over 30 years ago where a coworker was camping with his family and they were packing to leave. Their 3 year old son was playing on the picnic table and tripped. The skewer was in a box on the ground and it pierced his pericardium. Drove the kid 20 minutes back into...

Gas Price Info With National Gas Temperature Map

I am seeing strange stuff here. Regular is hovering around $2.25 which is OK. However, most regions seem to have a $.10 - $.15 spread between grades. Around here it is $.30, so $2.25, 2.55, 2.75. Worse, the BP stations are now putting a $.60 jump between mid and premium, so $2.25, 2.55...

    World's Biggest...Muscle Car? (^-^)

That was my impression as well. My mother's husband owned one (76), and it just felt like an overweight car with no real power. Didn't handle, and didn't feel as quick as my new then 83 GTI.

This is the first road-legal big rig that can drive itself

Don't they already have one of those, called a train? Guess I prefer using rail for long hauls and trucks for short terminal to destination runs. The autonomous truck seems more suited to long haul.

Staples is buying Office Depot in a $6.3 billion deal

No staples close by. Office Depot closed a few months ago. There are 2 Office max locations within 10 miles. I believe Office max and Depot combined a few years ago. I am buying most office supplies from Target or Costco and Amazon for the less common stuff. The Office stores just aren't...

Amazon reportedly wants to buy RadioShack stores to better compete with Apple

Actually, they are in the process of opening a large distribution warehouse 30 miles from me. I am getting most stuff next day now, and once or twice have gotten it the same day when I order early in the morning.
