I'm still on 389. I learned from experience never to force an update. It avoids a lot of problems.

Absolutely. I see no rational reason for eliminating the HD SD channel designations. Perhaps this was unintentional, since new software releases have inadvertently created bugs before.

Since I received the 388 I notice that in the guide listings the channels no longer designate which is HD. Did 388 do this, or has this been happening before and I just noticed it?

I agree. I don't find very much compelling content on any of these channels, and find the schedule many times doesn't sync with what's actually being shown. Then there are the commercials. I have to believe it costs Dish nothing to include these channels.

Whether it's OTA, cable, satellite, or streaming and how it's recorded is irrelevant. The issue is recording of content, and if it isn't used for commercial purposes, it's perfectly legal.

I don't believe there are any legal issues regarding recording content from streaming channels. That was made clear way back in the 70's when the courts ruled that people can legally use their VCR's to record content for private purposes.

I don't believe there are any legal issues preventing the recording of streaming content because other platforms have recording capability of the same content. Frndlytv is one example.

Same as the others, Scott. I looked at several streaming channels, and they all showed "no recording". H3 - H387. Is a software update required?

Is it my imagination, or are these updates coming with greater frequency?

For those like me who prefer the Dish 40.0 remote, they do kind of wear out where the buttons become unresponsive. But refurbishing them yourself is pretty easy. Look on YouTube for videos of the Dish 40.0 remote being refurbished. It won't eliminate various scratches, etc. but functionally...

The H3 lost its internet connection. Once restored, the guide info for the streaming channels returned. I should have known this, shame on me.

Problem solved. For some unknown reason, the H3 lost its internet connection. Once I restored it, the J3 linked. I'm not certain why the J3 required the internet to be connected for it to link to the H3, but that's what happened.

After years of service, the Joey 3 suddenly won't link to the H3. The message "searching for the hopper" appears. The Joey 3 seems to know the H3 is there because a reboot of the H3 and the message on the Joey changes to "lost broadband connectivity". Then, when the H3 boots up, the searching...

Today I noticed there was no guide info for any of the streaming channels. They all showed "connect to view" A guide update accomplished nothing. ???

I find it somewhat amazing that there are so many junk streaming channels out there. Do they pay Dish to include them?

I've removed the HDNet Movie channel from my favorites list. Adding commercials did it. Now, the HDNet Movie channel is no different than Tubi or Plex.

I don't think there are any 16 new channels.
