Thanks for the help so far. I used the low level format tool then plugged it into the reciever to have it format it, but no go. Still error message 850: unsupported.

It could be the EHD is using both the USB port and wall outlet as a power source. First time owning one so I'll have to check

New to this I purchased a 500 GB Hitachi Desk Life Studio EHD and I'm having problems with the VIP 612 reciever recognizing it. I already formatted it on the computer like the dish representative said yet the problem still remains. Is it a matter of getting it enabled or something else? Thanks...
