    TV signal range question

I am in Japan and I am actively attempting to receive the Korean Central TV signal on C-band here. The signal originates from 96.5E Express 103. It is reported to be 42 dBW at my location so it should be easily receivable on my 1-metre dish. It seems I have no 5G interference in my particular...

Comments from a newbie to FTA

No. Why would you? If all you want to do is watch TV, then get cable. Glad you're having a thrill exploring.

Chinese Equivalent of Lyngsat for Eastern Hemisphere

Reminds me of the old Steve Martin line..."...those French have a different word for everything! Like they say 'fromage' instead of 'cheese'..." I tried from here for Xintian 9 at 183E and Intelsat 18 at 180E on C-band but no go. The furthest east I could receive on C-band with my 1-metre dish...

    FTA Contact in Japan

Attached is a .zip file for a GT Media V7S5X satellite receiver configured for use in Japan or east Asia. Simply swap this file for the database file in your receiver to see many of the sats and transponders for Ku- and C-band that you can access from this area.

Not that I'm aware of. But I have no familiarity nor equipment for Ka-band.

    FTA Contact in Japan

Now a 2-dish home. I just received via Amazon Japan today a 45-cm dish with LNB compatible with the Japanese domestic satellite system. Complete assembly just US$48 delivered free to my front door. Installed indoors, it looks through a window and receives SQ81% signals from 110E. Very easy to...

New to FTA, Amiko MINI HD265 firmware and sat DB options?

Scales? I gave up on scales. I calculate what the dish face angle should be, also considering declination value for my latitude, then set the angles using an angle app on my smartphone. This often gets me close enough that a blind scan lets me receive at least a strong transponder which I can...

    Unimesh LNB Black Cover Pins

I use the cheapest reusable cable ties from places like Dollarama or the Dollar stores. A great invention. You can undo them and re-use as you wish. If the UV gets them, so be it.

    FTA Contact in Japan

Today I tried C-band. I wasn't expecting much since I have the Titanium LNBF mounted on a 1-metre offset dish. Was I surprised with the results. I was able to blind scan in four video and four radio channels on the AFN encrypted circular transponder from 169E Horizons 3e. Nothing to watch or...

    FTA Contact in Japan

I have signals! The dish is ground-mounted sitting on an old heavy-duty azimuth rotator only to hold the base of the mast fixed yet loose enough to allow manual azimuthal rotation and a 50-lb concrete block to help stabilize the assembly. All supported by heavy ropes. So nice to have non-rusted...

OTHER GT media v9 / LNB settings / signal intensity issues

Lyngsat shows most transponders on 8W Eutelsat 8 have a footprint of MENA (Middle East North Africa), East (eastern hemisphere) or Europe. You can't receive those in North America. At best, you may receive feeds beamed at North America. Below is one I received 12 years ago.

    FTA Contact in Japan

So I'm back in Japan. Incredibly, I cannot source the typical 3-foot satellite dish tripod that I've used for three dishes back in Canada. I tried ordering one via Amazon Japan from two different local suppliers and they both came back to say they could not source stock from the U.S. even though...

How many of you have try satellite roll off?

I've wondered what that was for. Maybe more important when using a smaller dish?

OTHER GT media v9 / LNB settings / signal intensity issues

Agreed. If the LNB is good, and if voltage is being supplied from the receiver to the LNB, then usually Signal Intensity should show an upscale reading.

OTHER GT media v9 / LNB settings / signal intensity issues

You won't receive that transponder until you change the SR to the correct value of 20000. My records show as recent as January that the SR is 20000, not 22000. If you don't know how to do that, then choose a different transponder on 97W Galaxy 19. Signal Intensity tells you little. Focus on...

OTHER GT media v9 / LNB settings / signal intensity issues

Try changing the SR for the 12152 transponder to 20000. Or do a blind scan.

    LegitFTA down?

I'm a fellow Japanese for a couple of months struggling to find parts to install a 1-metre dish in the cold. The location on the Edision is only to allow the Weather screen to show accurately for your location. The babe is gone; replaced in TNAP6 with a scientific-looking dude. You obviously...

    LegitFTA down?

Exactly. I pulled my TNAP6 image off and went back to TNAP5.1. el bandido really appreciates those who load TNAP6, tests and reports back problems. If you can't log into legitfta reliably and read the comments regarding TNAP6 daily, I wouldn't load it just yet.

    Getting into HAM in 2024?

Like everything, there are many ways to enjoy amateur radio. You can build simple wire antennas (dipole, inverted vee, or even a homemade vertical) for low cost. You can buy simple kits and assemble them yourself. Lack of a big budget doesn't need to prevent you from enjoying the hobby.

    OTHER GTMEDIA V7 or V9?

I beg to disagree. The GT Media boxes give more than you pay for. My goodness, I only paid $30 delivered to me for a V7S5X. I paid $215 for my Edision Mio+ (plus shipping). Which is best? I never answer that question about anything. Each has its own capabilities. The GT Media has a rapid...
