    Dropping Directv for Xfinity X1

I started with DirecTv when the first Satellite TiVo PVR came out. But, I am now a Comcast customer. Instead of getting the Comcast X1, I decided to get a Tivo Roamio Plus and three TiVo Minis. These cost me $857.00 DirecTv was costing me $116.00 per month for the XTRA package, DVR service, HD...

My weekend call /MPEG4 upgrade "news"

I called DirecTv (800-824-9081) on Monday after seeing that Newegg had the H20 for $169. I had already bought the HR10-250 with the $100 rebate and decide to get the H20 if I could get a good deal. Called Customer Service at the above number and told her about the Newegg price. I was offered an...

    H20 installation

Tom, Thanks for info. I'm not sure when I will do the upgrade. I have two HD-TiVo Recievers now and really only 1 HD Television. The other HD-TiVo is connected to a 15" LCD TV. If I get the H20, I don't know how I will use it. But the idea of getting it for free is nudging me along. Rick

    H20 installation

Confused I'm in the SF Area and I believe that the MPEG-4 rollout is underway. Can I get the H20 for free? $199 - $200 mail-in rebate? What about the antenna? It looks like the antenna has six cables out? So this will require something like the Zinwell WB68. Now this is where it gets tricky...

    4:3 television aspect ration problems

4x3 FEATURE for 16x9 Sets. I have a 16x9 Hitachi, and this is a FEATURE for me ;) . I have my HDTiVo setup for 4x3. When I watch a SD picture, I use the 480p output. On my Hitachi, I set the geometry for 480p to be 4x3 expanded. This stretches the picture to the edge and overstretches the...

How NOT to get an HD-TiVo

Well, I am now a DirecTv customer and will soon sell my dishNetwork equipment. My only real complaint is that the DirecTivo Players have very slow menus. The non-Tivo Receivers are very nice. Much better than the 301s they replaced. But I am getting a head of the story. The day after Memorial...

How NOT to get an HD-TiVo

... HD DirecTivo unit arrived. I found it safely at my front door when I got home from work. I thought that I would have needed to sign for it, but it was just there. Opened the box, and checked it out. Closed the box and waited for today. Arrived at Circuit City for the DirecTv dance. No...

How NOT to get an HD-TiVo

Agghh! I'm sure that this is obvious to someone out there but I really thought that I could easily get the HD-TiVo and switch from dishNetwork to DirecTv. but... DirecTv has LOTS of NEW customer programs and after I confirmed that my CC HD-TiVo was on its way, I picked one that would get me...

    921 "available" anywhere yet?

My HD-PVR is on its way!! I should have it Monday or Tuesday. I've been on the waiting list for the 921 since mid December, and finally will get an HD-PVR by just ordering one on Wednesday. The only issue is that since it will say Hughes HR10-250 Tivo on it, I will need to switch to Directv. I...

HD Tivo- Circuit City instock again at 2:15PM CT avl for 2nd day Air for $12 more.

Depending on how badly you wanted one, I would check the website as often as possible. I would probably skip the 2 am checks. I would not trust email for much of anything. When it works, great! But nothing is perfect and there are delays and email that gets lost. Not a lot, but enough to make...

    811 & my 1 year commitment

I was told that I would have to pay $240 to leave Dish Network. I have an 811, 3 301s, two SW64s, dish 500 2 duals, and 1 dual for 148. I think selling these items would cover the charges. I'm waiting for the HD-TiVo to be more readily available and I also want to see if the 811 gets a hardware...

The new 811 software ver 265 is here!

Oakenshld, thanks for figuring this out for me. I didn't see the pattern. Yep, 48.2 was the last LOCAL I was adding. I have a few channels above 48.2, so I added one of them and now I have 48.2 AND the channel above is not included. I don't know why the dish support couldn't tell me this. I...

The new 811 software ver 265 is here!

OTA Problems still exist I cannot save channel 48-2 KNTV HD in my favorites list. This is a weird problem because the channel will show up in the ALL CHAN list and the SUB CHAN list. But I cannot save it in the list that I want to save it in. I tried to save the channel in a list named LOCALS...

More than four receivers on SW44

If you keep your legacy equipment, then you will need 4 spliitters (DC blocking) before the SW44 and add another SW44. You will not be able to add a splitter after the SW44 as this will prevent the reciever from signalling the SW44.

    My ramblings on the 811

The problem with researching a product like the 811 is that each software release makes the 811 a much different product than the previous. It is difficult, to say the least, to determine which bugs are still present and which have been fixed when you go through all these posts. I think that...

811 Still has terrible OTA problems

It depends on the industry were are discussing. If we are talking about DTV, then we are referring to the digital signal that is sent to the TV. A digital set is one that can accept and process the digital signal. WLong was quoting this industry. If the industry is display devices, then you...

811 Still has terrible OTA problems

What viewable light source is not analog? I believe all display devices will need to output an analog signal at some point to accommodate our analog vision.

The 811 OTA Digital Channel Mapping Issue

This only happens if you add a name for the channel. If you leave it blank, then you get the warning message. If you save it anyway, The "Display Locals" option doesn't change.

The 811 OTA Digital Channel Mapping Issue

811 w/ P264LABD-N -> Top 3 Software bugs that I wish someone at dish had the brains to fix. SF Bay Area. OTA bugs. 1. Cannot keep channels 57.1 (maps to 4.1) or 49.2 (maps to 48.2). Add to DTV. Save. Add to favorites. View channel. Channel is removed from favorites and DTV channel list. The...

    New channels, Cinemax, Survey

I received a call from dishNetwork today. The CSR thanked me for being a customer, told me that dish would be adding 2 new channels this month, did a survey, and pitched a Cinemax offer. The call went like this. CSR - We will be adding 2 new channels this month. me - Great! What are they...

    811 Lost Wing Satellite

I wonder if some dish Engineer made an error when shutting down the HD signals that use to be on 148. Maybe the transponder that is being selected by the 811 is the defaut dishPro HD transponder and it is now 'off'. Or dish is testing their three HDs on a stick configuration and something that...
