    TIVO vs E*

Actually, it's up to Dish to get a stay granted after briefs from each side are reviewed by the judge. Where did you learn your law? Part of the reason why the Federal Court is coming down so hard on Dish is because Dish was previously granted a stay under false pretenses; they were claiming...

    Video Dropouts on ViP 722

Are these about 1/2 second dropouts? I've seen a few during on HD Olympic channels, but no where else. I figured it was just China censoring the guy holding up the "John 3:16" banner. ;)

DISH expected to settle with TiVo.

I loved my DT Series 2 Tivo. But analog cable ($30/mo) + Tivo ($13/mo) isn't as much a value as DishHD, VIP722, cinemax for $42/mo w/a 24-mo commitment. . The only thing I'm missing is my regional sports in SD and, in my opinion, a slightly more intuitive, more reliable Tivo DVR. What do I...

What features from Tivo would you like added to your E* box?

Being able to FF and REW to hash marks. 300x FF/REW is fast, but if you have a 4-hr recording and you want to jump around, the Dish interface is clumsy. I like the Tivo guide better. I like to be able to rollover a channel and see all the programming data for that channel only. I hate...

Anyone try one of the new Archos Dish compatible players?

I bought a 30gb 605 wifi last week. It's nice because I've converted a lot of my DVDs to divx. It's also nice because I can transfer SOME programs from my VIP722. Unfortunately SD only. So I'm stuck with frontline, charlie rose, etc or I'll need to record in SD for the sole purpose to...

Am I the Only One Who is Upset Over E*s Increase...

Ditto for netflix. Netflix has always provided a broad selection and good service for less than $2 a rental. Since I rarely watch a movie more than once and I hate wasting time at the video stores, I've been a longtime loyal netflix user. In theory, the 720p/1080i HD broadcast of a PPV movie...

    E* locals in Los Angeles

It's worth putting up an antenna if you can get reception. I get KTLA, KCAL, and 4 PBS stations in HD as well as their multi-casts. NBC and ABC also have multicasts. The digital broadcasts of KCOP, KDOC, qubo are much higher quality than the SD that Dish is transmitting. I pay for locals...

    Potential New DishHD Customer

Whoops. I forgot to mention I ordered through Dishstore.net as well. I'd guess that 75% of the volume resellers are "good enough" in terms of service and product awareness. However, dishstore has their own rebate program entirely separate from Dish which is 1) pretty fair and 2) reputable. I...

    Potential New DishHD Customer

I was in your exact situation 2 months ago and I decided to bite-the-bullet and order the DishHD with locals even though I get lots of OTA digital stations. I have a VIP722 and this dvr/receiver is pretty awesome. I have 2 HD TVs hooked up to TV1 (one HDMI and one component) and 3 SD TVs...

VIP722 DVR questions (Switching from TiVo)

Thanks Kb7oeb. I was aware of that feature but hadn't tried it much. I'll give it shot now that I've cleaned up my favorites and locked out a bunch of redundant channels. I do like the Tivo EPG better, but the VIP722 lets me do more "DVR management" while watching TV.

Who makes the best HD DVR?

I voted...but for Tivo. I love my VIP722 with Dish HD, but I still think Tivo is a "better" DVR. But I also think OS X is a "better" operating system than XP.

VIP722 DVR questions (Switching from TiVo)

I'm a Series 2 Dual Tuner Tivo convert as well. What I miss from Tivo: - Pause a live show when I "catch up" and watching something previously recorded and then watching live again to "catch up". The buffer is dumped when you watch something recorded. You can solve this by recording the...

Is this possible? (New to HD question)

I see a slight difference between OTA HD and Dish locals HD with the latter being a tad less pixelated. But the consistency of the Dish signals outweighs any OTA benefit for me in Los Angeles. My signal seems more sensitive to wind and rain than my Dish signal is. There are also no PBS HD...

Is this possible? (New to HD question)

With a VIP622 or VIP722, HD locals and OTA HD, I think I can record 3 network shows in HD at the same time. I'd also recommend the VIP722 if you have 1 HD and 1 or more analog TVs.

New Dish/VIP722 subscriber here - Question about buffers.

Ok, so it won't work in dual mode? 1 hour buffer is quite generous since I'm coming from a DT tivo, which had 30 min buffers. Thanks!

Use LCD monitor as TV or how to find cheap Non-HD LCD TVs?

I have a VIP722 and I have shared the TV2 output to all my rooms except for my main TV which is HD. I'm looking for the most frugal way to find 15"-20" LCD TVs for these rooms. They don't need to be HD and they can have a 4:3 ratio, since the VIP722 outputs TV2 in 480i. I've thought about...

New Dish/VIP722 subscriber here - Question about buffers.

After lurking in these forums for a few months, I finally suscribed to Dish. I ordered through Dishstore.net, so I hope I helped support the forum. I signed up for the $41/mo DishHD pack w/locals and leased a VIP722. I also have good OTA reception, so I've hooked that up. I was an analog...
