    Auto Racing 2025

The Roar is up next week, followed by The Rolex 24 hr, both at Daytona. My 2025 schedule includes Michelin Pilot 4 hr at Mid-Ohio and Indycar at Road America and Mid-Ohio. Maybe the 8 hr GT at Indy, but I may postpone that for the Rolex 24 in '26. Indycar moves to Fox which might be some...

    New offers automatically unsubbing

Always checking the offers from Dish. One thing I've noticed with the last couple is that they are defaulting the offer to turn off the add-on, instead of making the subscriber choose to turn it off after the deal is over. I like that. I'm starting a second two months Showtime for free deal...

    OTA Recorder

My MIL is looking to drop Dish and was needing OTA DVR capabilities. I did a bunch of searching online. It seems there are three main players, Tablo, AirTV, and HDHomerun. Tablo seems to have rave reviews for their older stuff, but not new stuff. AirTV appears to stream well to devices, though...

    Peacock rates going up

Peacock email email announced it's price is going up $2 a month, from $5.99 to $7.99. Premium Plus add on is the same at $6 so that price only increases $2 as well. With the loss of Indycar, Peacock's value drops for me, but still, EPL, IMSA, Tour de France, Olympics still provides enough value.

    Dish Anywhere and Folders

I've noticed an odd thing. I was trying to start a recording on Dish Anywhere, and I couldn't see the recording. I checked the schedule and it said it was there. Went to the receiver, and it was recorded, but stored in the racing folder I created. Is Dish Anywhere unable to see programs put in...

Disney+ / Hulu / Etc...+ to rein in Password Sharing

https://www.thestreet.com/technology/disney-hulu-and-espn-are-making-a-major-change-subscribers-will-hate So this is what Disney said they were going to do regarding password sharing in their email. *something unspecific* Their email did include a link to the T&C... seriously! How will this...

    Auto Racing 2024

24 hrs at Daytona is in 1.5 weeks. Should be fun. Indycar is flirting with a hybrid. IMSA's hybrid will be in its second season, so experimenting will begin. NASCAR returns to IMS "oval" as Penske opens the track to all comers... and hopefully unshredded tires. Will Sparklefarts return to the...

What? No ODI World Cup Thread?

It is that time again, the ODI World Cup, which is opening up as we speak with England facing New Zealand. This is a rematch of the cracker final between the two in 2019, which was just beyond awesome... a great way to get into the game. Confused by cricket? You don't need to be, it is like...

What, no Rugby World Cup thread

Peacock, Rugby World Cup NFL players are typically absurdly big, strong, and fast. And you put them next to Rugby players and you think OMG they look tiny. 40 minutes, on going action most of the time. Some guys with thighs thicker than trees, base muscle, not the clear trimmed muscle but...

No Starz offer with Dish anymore?

I grew accustomed to seeing Starz for $5 a month for the last 35 years or so, and when I was checking offers online, I noticed that the Starz one was not to be seen. All the others were there, Showtime, Movie Pack, DogTV. A carriage thing brewing there or was I just beloved by Dish, but no...

What... no FIFA World Cup thread? ;)

So, the World Cup kicked off yesterday. This year it is being played in a place that is the source of probably 25% of the financing of European football. Hence, why it is being played in a nation with almost no football, or even a native football team and required building a bunch of stadiums...

What, no ICC T20 World Cup thread? :D

Yup, World Cup is on going in Australia. India and Pakistan had a doozy in what appeared to be a sold out crowd. Crowds at this World Cup so far have been between meager to boisterous. Pakistan struggled to get the bats going initially, but finally managed a brief partnership. That broke down...

    Odd Showtime Offers

So I was checking my offers and I saw the typical $5 a month for 3 months for Showtime. However, there is a new one now, $1.99 a month for 4 months... which is umm... a much better deal. None of the other premiums have a similar cheaper, more like a streaming only deal. I rarely ever watch...

    ESPN+ Bumping up $3 a month

link Prepare for the online wailing. On one hand, it is just $36 more a month. On the other, it is a 43% increase. However you cut it, ESPN+ is getting more expensive. ESPN has been gobbling up sports rights again, and this is now showing up on their price. Currently, the Disney bundle...

    Indy 500 (2022)

Well, the qualifying is complete. One thing about Indy Car right now, it is stuffed with awesome old talent, awesome middle aged talent, and awesome young talent. The front row, Veekay, Palou, and Dixon who has been racing since the motors were in the front (okay... that isn't true, but he has...

    722k OTA (missing sub channels)

I have an odd issue (?) with the 722k OTA module. Some channels I can only get some of the subchannels. When it scans it sees most of the subs, but when turning to the station, no signal. In general, channel strengths are 90+. For instance, WVIZ has 8 or so subs. A scan shows 25-1 to 25-5 then...

Disney to shutdown Hotstar in US

https://news.yahoo.com/disney-shutting-down-streaming-end-152143589.html#:~:text=On%20Aug.%2031%2C%20Disney%20announced,for%20good%20by%20late%202022. As I'm sure most here are familiar with, Disney has announced they are shutting Hotstar down by the end of this year. Hotstar is generally an...

A la carte starting to consolidate

link Yup, so a spinoff that consolidates media. I presume this means their media is never going elsewhere. $55 billion in debt... to start off! AT&T spins off a company to get money infusion, which is paid for with debt. Gotta love America!

    Ravioli anyone?

Even with the right tools, ravioli takes time. Unfortunately double cream gouda and parano cheese is unavailable. Luckily Target sells Tillimook cheese (out of Oregon). They had a bag of shredded parmesan and mozzarella. So mix that with an egg and I don’t know 3/4 cup of ricotta and that...

    Hopper ‘channel-less’ timer?

My MIL wants to create a timer on her Hopper 1 that isn’t stuck to a channel like Dishpass (I think) on the 722k. She doesn’t think it can be done. In other words she wants a timer to search for programs with a specific term in the title, regardless of the channel. Is this possible?

    TLC Welcome Pack?

Did TLC just fall off of the Welcome Pack. My MIL brought this to my notice as I haven’t watched the channel since the early 00’s. It doesn’t show up anymore, didn’t know when it didn’t. Not showing it is on Welcome on their website. It looks like Flex Pack would be the cheapest option for...

    Directv has some cool tech!

So, I had AT&T (Directv) people stop by the home. I let them know I already had their high speed internet and wasn't switching from Dish. Of course, they need to still press and I quickly tell them I have 2 TB of programming on the external hard drive I'm not going to walk away from. 'Oh...

    Nick Jr - On Demand

Is there any on demand programming via Sling TV for Nick Jr? It occurred to me I could use SlingTV to get access to NBCSN ($25) And Flex to keep DVR access for TCM, Cooking, CN and a few other channels, as well as access to the EHD ($35) If Nick Jr. had on demand via Sling, I could hold off on...

Is Sling TV primarily live with limited replay

Looking at the SlingTV site, it appears that Sling, unlike Vue has limited channels that can reshow something for only 3 days, whereas Vue seems to allow a lot of replay for nearly a month. This would be a problem if I can only watch EPL live.

Ack, HBO is on to us!

Yup... looks like HBO figured it out. On Demand is available with the free preview, but the On Demand expires with the free previews! The monsters! Well... alright, completely reasonable, but still... they are monsters! I demand the best in premium programming for nothing! :)
