Pretty dumb question about dish... humor me

Hey, I have a 4-foot GeoSat Pro dish on the roof (Sky Mexico). Pretty big though and a bit of an eyesore even though it's brand new and rust free. And I was thinking of painting a nice image or pattern on the back of it. Any problem with doing this as far as reception?

How do I clone a DirecTV hard drive with Mac OS X?

I would like to clone my HR24-200's hard drive to ensure I don't lose my recordings in case the original hdd fails. I know the drive is Linux formatted and I'm a Mac user... any way to do this? Thanks!

    Does the HR24 record 1080i content with a width of 1920, 1440 or 1280?

Is it one of the "HD light" widths or full HD? Thanks.

What kind if encoder does the HR24 use?

I'm planning on moving my recordings to my Mac using EyeTV HD. It's similar to a Hauppage PVR and takes in the signal via component. I'm trying to find out how EyeTV HD's encoder compares to the HR24's.

I tried to play recordings w/o the sat and this is what happened...

I played my recordings without the satellite connection and they play, BUT with a slight pause every few seconds. My service is still active by the way. Any idea as to why this happens?

Hypothetical question -- DirecTV DVR return

Thanks for the info, Mr. Cold. One more thing: If someone were to disconnect the DVR before the service is cut - and never connect it to the sat again - would the recordings still play no matter how much time passes?

Hypothetical question -- DirecTV DVR return

If someone were to cancel their DirecTV service and decide to keep the DVR (which they are leasing, of course), what would the consequences be? I imagine DTV would ask you to return it, but I mean long term. Hypothetically.
