An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

This is from an email sent to me 11/05/2011 from satelliteguys. I suppose everyone got it. It says nothing about technical issues, nor does it mention "business or philosophical" issues. It says nothing about "DIRT" (God, that's so cute it's sickening) being for technical issues only. It...

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

I have read and listened. I've talked and corresponded with US senators and representatives. I've corresponded with the FCC, Dish dispute resolution team, and failed at communications with Nielsen. Bottom line is that the FCC says that satellite providers CAN provide the SV channels, it's up...

If the implication is we're beating a dead horse, that may be. But we can damn well beat it 'til we bloody the whole barnyard.

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

We have petitions. 3500 signatures in a very small rural county, population less that 15,000. If half are adults, and half of them have cable, which carries stations from both DMA's, that's nearly all of the satellite subscribers. Nielsen does not respond to attempts at to communicate with...

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

That was my understanding also. However, I'm certain that I read somewhere that this "penalty timeout" was over. I've searched my notes, documents, etc., with no results. Thanks for your response John

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

I ask my mechanic (I'm surprised that a techno-geek wouldn't know they are technicians now) when my car doesn't run right. My satellite system doesn't run right-it provides news, sports and weather that's immaterial to my life. Go back to your tweeters and woofers and sub-whatevers. You'll be...

To whom? I've been through this with Dish dispute resolution to no avail.

But evidently Direct can, and does.

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

I'm going to let this go by the wayside and ask the moderator to close the thread. It's obvious that Dish reps are not going to answer any of this, which is not surprising, since they have a history of ignoring things they can't or won't answer. Thank you all for your responses, John

Yeah, that's where I got the info on Cleburne from.

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

Direct duplicated two networks for Cleburne County (Atlanta DMA) but not their neighboring county Randolph, which is also in the Atlanta DMA. Wasn't Dish's time in the penalty box over sometime back? And why does the FCC insist that it's not their doing? None of this makes sense. But I...

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

Not a revelation, just another option. Dish seems unequivocally opposed, Direct seems somewhat open. We have nothing to lose.

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

The FCC says it is perfectly legal.

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

Then the key is for everyone in the county to go to Direct. I guess that's our next step, since Direct can do it and Dish can't. It's already been discussed county wide, and with now 3500 signatures, I don't think we'll have a problem getting people to switch. Direct has done it in Cleburne...

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

Cleburne County did not have one missing. Do you really think Atlanta, Georgia doesn't have a full complement of network stations? And these are the two Alabama stations on their SV list: Cleburne (Alabama) WSB-TV, 2, Atlanta, GA WAGA, 5, Atlanta, GA WXIA-TV, 11, Atlanta, GA...

MEMORANDUM May 17, 2011 To: Hon. Robert Aderholt Attention: Paul Housel From: Charles B. Goldfarb, Specialist in Telecommunications Policy, 7-7252 (Congressional Research Service) Subject: Satellite Carriage of Broadcast Television Signals and DMAs "However, the FCC also has identified WBRC...

An open letter to the DIRT team at Satelliteguys

I live in an orphan county, Lamar County, Alabama. We are assigned to the Columbus-Tupelo-West Point (MS) DMA. Making this brief as possible, we, the residents of Lamar County, would prefer to view Alabama locals, or to be more specific-news, sports and weather from our home state, Alabama...

Where is the link to the Dish Network response team?

Thanks...now I don't feel so bad about not finding it. John

Where is the link to the Dish Network response team?

How does one contact the Dish response team? I've searched the site and cannot find it. Thanks, John

    DMA's, local channels, orphans

OK. But that's not what the FCC and Congressional Research Service are saying. They're saying that these stations are available now, if Dish and Direct will provide them. Damn politicians, bureaucrats, and corporate liars. Thanks, Ice

    DMA's, local channels, orphans

I'll look into this. I knew there was some "penalty time", for lack of a better term, that Dish was serving, but thought that was over now. This is from Charles B. Goldfarb, Specialist in Telecommunications Policy, Congressional Research Service, which is a service available to US senators and...

    DMA's, local channels, orphans

Yeah, they are available. Getting Dish and Direct to admit it and do something about it is a different story, however. I've not dealt with Direct but Dish denies this, saying the FCC rules prevent them from giving us any Alabama locals. Thanks, John

    DMA's, local channels, orphans

Mike: The "significantly viewed" stations are available to us now, according to all I've read, including a report from a US congressional research service, compliments of our US representative. Cleburne county, Alabama is an orphan county (Atlanta DMA) and DirectTV (no Dish yet) has offered...

    DMA's, local channels, orphans

Trying to be as brief as possible, we live in what is sometimes referred to as an "orphan" county-a county that is assigned to a DMA from an adjoining state. We are in Lamar County, Alabama, and are assigned to the Columbus-Tupelo (MS) DMA. Needless to say, nearly everyone in the county that is...

Discontent with out of state DMA

Yeah, I'm sitting here contemplating it along with the bottom of my wineglass, which is becoming disturbingly exposed. John
