As far as looking for better PQ on E*, it really depends on what channels you're looking for. E* has better PQ on SD channels(D* has the worst SD I've seen out of 4 different providers) and a few HD channels like ESPN, ESPN2 and the HDNets. The rest goes to D*(except HD locals which vary by...
The new HD channels on Directv10 are better than anything on E*. However (as stated by others) channels like the two ESPNs and HDNets, look much better on E*. I'd also give E* the edge on HD locals PQ, but I think this varies by market (what encoders D* uses for each city, etc).
Huh? Maybe I missed something but I've seen people complaining about audio dropouts on ESPNHD via D* and I stated that since the problem doesn't exist on E* nor Comcast, it's likely a D* problem.
And you obviously have not viewed the HD LIL's from the Boston DMA on D*. The NBC and CBS look worse than what I used to get on BEV and NESNHD in MPEG4 is a joke.
I like the native mode as well, it's a plus for the HR20. To me, DLB is definetly not overrated and a must for a DVR, especially for a sports fan. I just don't get why D* with all their emphasis on sports would neglect this.
I have both the 622 and the HR20. The 622 is by far the better machine as it stands today. Responds better, has DLB's and a 30 second skip rather than "slip". I would think that going from the 622 to the HR20 will feel like a downgrade to most.
Unless they do what their doing to MPEG4 NESN HD. Quickly that excitement will turn to disappointment and at least one cancellation of service (mine).
Anyway, it's good to seem doing some full res. Hopefully it will all be that way.
...station that's naturally 1080i to be converted to 720p?
I'm kinda shocked by the way people are responding to NESN at 720p, like it's fine that D* is pulling a BEV. I'm also susprised that more people in the Boston DMA didn't notice the HUGE difference in PQ from about a month ago when they...
Trust me, NESN doesn't look better or even close to what it does at 1080i. 720p is fine if that is the actual resolution coming from the station, not something D* is converting.
...few weeks ago when they had it at 1080i? It looked 1000 times better. I think it's very fuzzy and lacks detail currently. If that's the future of D*'s HD then I think the future is bleak.
But perhaps I have a higher standard of what I consider a quality picture than you do.
And yes...
I'd have hope too if they weren't converting the Mpeg4 version of NESNHD(I call it NESNSD Widescreen as that's what it looks like) to 720p. Makes me wonder if they'll do more of this "converting" in the future.
