Not sure, it may be just amplifying the noise and artifacts etc... you can have good cables but it's only going to be as good as the source.

sounds like a good deal... but what about your contract w/D*? and of course don't forget about picture quality. I have both TWC and D* so I can get local HD channels (for NBA playoffs) and the analog channels are crappy; even my wife pointed it out.

I guess it depends on the program you are watching, your TV, settings... all that stuff. I have a 42 mits TV, maybe I could really tell the difference if I had a 50+ TV..

I hope it gets better too. I also think that 720p for sports is over rated. Hdnet uses 1080i for sports and to me it makes the difference between a great picture and almost being there. Maybe 720p is good for a hockey puck or a 100mph fastball but I think b-ball and football can get by w/1080i...

go w/D* I don't have a standalone Tivo but have D*Tivo and love it. If I'm missing features, I wouldn't know. As far as HD is concerned, I would give up universal HD in a heartbeat to get TNT-HD that E* offers. But it may be coming soon... hopefully.
