The entire government can't be political. I did not take it to mean anything other than governmental agencies buying data on the open market.

Smart TVs are like “a digital Trojan Horse” in people’s homes

The surveillance economy is huge. It isn't really clear to me where all the money is coming from. It can't just be advertisers.

Yeah, it isn't perfect, but it is definitely the most performant hardware platform in my experience. The whole UI just operates very quickly compared to everything else out there. The only audio issue I see is the way it prevents you from just passing the original audio through, and that is a...

In what respect? Certainly can't be hardware specs. I'd be curious to know what streaming devices out there have more than 4GB of RAM and score better than the A15 Bionic on CPU tests. My only real complaint is the way it handles audio.

Wish I could say the same about my X950H. It was usable as a backup to whatever streaming device I have been using at the time, but no longer. Ever since the most recent update (or maybe the one before that?), all streaming apps crash. Either way, it never could have been my primary streaming...

I'm going to add that most people aren't going to buy any streaming box until or unless their SmartTV is unusable. Apple is the only major platform that isn't built into TVs. Android/Google, Roku, FireTV, Samsung Tizen, etc. all come included when you buy a TV. If you've just plunked hundreds...

https://www.tomsguide.com/tvs/google-tv-is-now-winning-the-tv-race-and-it-has-blown-past-roku I'd choose Roku over Google if I had to. All my TVs have AppleTV 4Ks currently. Hard to beat the performance and functionality, if not the price. I do have a 2022 Roku Ultra in the Living Room as a...

So, I just changed my router (went from pfsense to opnsense in the process). I went from getting Wichita local CBS station in Paramount+ to getting the Raleigh, NC local station. I checked my old IP in several online geolocation databases, and discovered it was not in several of them, while...

Looks like It’s official Directv Buying Dish

Yeah, almost everyone buys phones unless you get it from Lifeline due to your economic situation. Whether the cost is in your monthly payment or not, you're paying for it. I personally buy phones separate from my service for two reasons: 1. It costs me less. I pay less for the service...

OSU Michigan State game 9/28/24 only on Peacock

Yeah, after years of bit-starved, down-rezed "HD" content on cable, satellite, and OTA, 1080p on streaming services looks awesome -- like it used to when HDTV first came out.

    Verizon buying Frontier

Not saying I have the solution. I just think that paying people largely in stock, and incentivizing mergers by attaching large stock bonuses to the completion of the mergers creates short term gains for the people receiving the stock compensation and long term losses for companies by...

    Verizon buying Frontier

Yes, the share holders vote on board members. The members are nominated, usually by existing board members and sometimes by owners of large numbers of shares. Due to stock compensation for executives, that can include existing officers of the company. However, the money and stock to pay the...

    Verizon buying Frontier

Money, and/or probably stock incentives. There was a lot of talk at the time about Frontier leadership getting big paydays due to the deal. It isn't like bankruptcy courts go after previous compensation of execs or board members to pay off debts. Once they got paid, the money is gone. I've...

    Verizon buying Frontier

I like the term "coerced" more than "forced." At a minimum, the Frontier execs were "incentivized." They certainly weren't performing their fiduciary responsibilities for the company. Anyone paying attention at the time could see that.
