    Using commercial receivers for recording?

For anybody interested, here is the back of the Arris: And the back of the Ericsson (below it is an old Tandberg receiver)

    Terrible call to DiSH

Think about how you would feed an HD signal to the second TV. HDMI everywhere?

    Using commercial receivers for recording?

It's been nearly 25 years since I did infrastructure engineering for a service provider. Most of my world is managing and consulting on "greater-than-Five-9s" utility network engineering, with a side hustle of ultra-broadband (>=100 GbE) fiber. This satellite stuff is a happenstance side...

    Using commercial receivers for recording?

On the Ericsson and Arris receivers, the WebIf port is only to control the receiver; it can't stream video on that port that I know of.

    Using commercial receivers for recording?

Hmm. Your LAN IP scope is 10.0.1.001-10.0.1.254. Devices on your network will fall in that range from your DHCP server in your router. So the Arris is able to be connected TO by typing in 10.0.1.129 in a web browser. Question. If you stream a channel from your Mio to VLC on a pc, etc. What is...

autotune?? I have seen that in years, probably last time I seen that, and I used it ALOT, was back in early days hopper with sling and SD joey since the and that was with original GUI, the revamp GUI removed and when it got back ported to older hoppers they lost it to and this happen well over 5...

    Using commercial receivers for recording?

I appreciate all the information, and it's also fascinating to talk to someone who worked at a high level in the industry. The Arris and Ericsson receivers we have are obviously capable of more functionality than I'll ever be able to utilize, but I am learning. Unfortunately the network we're...

    Using commercial receivers for recording?

To get this going, start by not using any WiFi connections. Wireless handles multicast differently than wired ethernet. These devices are designed to be used preferably with higher-end enterprise or carrier-class switching and routing infrastructure (e.g. - Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, etc.) and use...

    Using commercial receivers for recording?

That's ok, it doesn't need to record if I can capture the stream on the PC.

    Using commercial receivers for recording?

The receiver will not record the stream. The IP Output functions will package the stream into UDP packets and will put them into an IP multicast group on the wire. If TSReader can use an IP multicast input, you would use the same group information to configure TSR and you should be able to...

This is the multicast address. Take a quick look at some of the multicast tutorials out there... it should then make more sense.

    Terrible call to DiSH

So the Joey itself has no tuners but enables use of one of the Hopper Duo's 2 tuners by a 2nd user in HD? I would thusly allege that calling that Hopper, by itself, a Duo could be misleading. A combo of Hopper Duo plus Joey could be unitarily considered a Duo system. To me, as I've previously...

    Terrible call to DiSH

The Hopper Duo can serve 2 users but that second viewer needs a Joey. That Joey, incidentally, provides an HD picture which the 722 didn’t. Duo means 2 users over 2 tuners, nothing more.

    Terrible call to DiSH

My understanding is that systems designated by DiSH as Duo are usable by 2 users independently from each other. There's the Duo ViP222, the DuoDVR ViP722, etc. They actually started in with Duos way back with the 322/522. Through this time they also referenced single-user only units as Solo...
