They were for the deeper (low f/D ratio) dishes. I think I may have had one at one time but never had a dish that might have benefited from it. Not sure how effective they were.

I think most of the old receivers would work with reed switch/magnet wheel setups. If you could post a pic of your actuator/sensor setup at the dish and the back sides of your receivers I'm sure one of the old BUD installers here could steer you in the right direction.

I am still using a Toshiba 1820 installed in 1993 to move one of my BUDs and it works great. Have seen and remember the Unidens and GIs but never owned one. Do you have remotes for both/either? That might help you make you choice. Lots of the old IRDs got took out by the batteries going bad...

You will not get any C-band with that little dish, Ku-band only, so don't waste your money on a C-band or a C/Ku combo LNBF.

Yeh dishpointer is a great tool. The sun method is cool too. If your dish location is in the shade when the sun is at the sat location you are interested in it's a no-go, if it's in the sun the dish can "see" it.

There are some free satellite locator apps if you have a smartphone, just hold your phone up facing south and it will show you the arc and sat locations, really handy for figuring out your line-of-sight limits. And twice a year (coming up in March I think) the sun actually travels the satellite...

Credit card and lottery transactions are typical uses, and lots of them are located where there is probably no hi-speed internet available. Well worth procuring, you can't beat those commercial dishes for durability and performance, especially when cheap or freeeeeee.
