    FTA Contact in Japan

FTA really isn't a hobby over there. Partly because most of the footprints on Japan are for commercial TV. Actually some of their satellite commercial TV is available unencrypted according to Lyngsat. So I may go for a small 60 cm dish since I know it would receive something. On C-band, you can...

    FTA Contact in Japan

Good question. Japan used the same analog NTSC format as the US in years past. For digital TV, I'm less sure. I have a TV there with composite connectors that I can connect to my receiver composite connectors. I've done this for analog TV in past years when I had a Slingbox. I also have an...

    FTA Contact in Japan

Tomorrow I will go to Japan. I have been looking for a direct contact with anybody in Japan who happens to enjoy FTA but haven't found anybody yet. I've heard there are a few who pursue this activity though mostly on C-band I believe. If anybody has any direct contact with either a supplier or...

    Bullet LNBFs

I have a couple of GSP bullet LNBs. They are good but they do not have the PLL (phase-locked loop) feature. I found PLL LNBs are sensitive and produce a stable output. GeosatPro and Avenger are PLL brands that I have. They may be slender like the bullets were.

    SES15 at 129W - is anything there?

It is DVB-S2 8PSK but only 3/5 FEC. So locking threshold is 5.5 dB. Now some crowd shots of the large Israel protest again.

    SES15 at 129W - is anything there?

I assume it's Gaza too. They run that cam overnight. When news happens, they interrupt to show live feeds. You don't need a universal LNB unless you want to scan for data tps below 11700 MHz. But if that's what is available, it's good to use.

    SES15 at 129W - is anything there?

Reuters is good for having a well-placed camera w/audio to view world events as they happen. Live feeds go on for hours at times. For example, this morning they have a camera covering the Israel protest by the largest union demanding hostages be released. No commentator just live video/audio of...

    Intelsat 18 180.0E Ku

The ITC channels on 180E support EPG so it's easy to know as you view what's coming up on their schedules. I search for programs in Tahitian on the TNTV schedule since they may have a local reporter travelling around the islands providing most interesting visuals. I can record them and watch at...

    SES15 at 129W - is anything there?

Reuters as shown on Lyngsat is the only transponder that will scan in on a blind scan. I don't see any data transponders now at least in the 11700 to 12900 MHz range. I don't have a universal LNB installed so I can't scan below 11700 MHz. I don't think an LNB 10 degrees off focus is going to...

    Intelsat 18 180.0E Ku

Keith Brannen gets the Troubleshooter's Award with full bragging rights associated. The LNB skew was corrected and both tps scan in on the correct vertical polarity. Viewing from behind a dish, whether the dish is upright or inverted, a positive skew means you rotate the LNB clockwise. In...

    Intelsat 18 180.0E Ku

I think now that Lyngsat is correct. We cannot receive the horizontal beam since it's focused on the South Pacific. We can only receive the vertical beam here in North America. I will correct my LNB skew today which will correct my scanned results to vertical only.

I looked at high resolution old photos. I think you're right! This would explain my problem and the disagreement with satstar and Lyngsat. I will correct tomorrow! My most recent memory about an inverted dish was when aiming my fixed dish at 77W. Of course its skew is in the opposite direction...

    Intelsat 18 180.0E Ku

Skew here is +35.3 degrees. With that amount of skew, if it were in the wrong direction, I wouldn't receive any signal. For an inverted dish, I learned last time I inverted that you turn the LNB in the same direction as if the dish is not inverted. The scale on my LNB bracket only goes to 20...

    Intelsat 18 180.0E Ku

Today I had success. I used my 1.2m fixed dish mounted inverted to make the 12.8 degree elevation easier. My azimuth is 243 degrees (WSW). I had to locate the dish in the forest to find a window through the trees. In the end, I locked two transponders: 11155 H 30000 (11.5 dB) and 11075 H 45000...

    Edision SL-2 LNBF - review

A universal LNB is actually better than a standard LNB in some cases. For example, since you're in AL, you may be able to receive the low Ku-band frequencies at 117W from 10970 to 11670 MHz by using your universal LNB with LO set to 9750 MHz and 22 kHz set to OFF. The 117W Eutelsat 117 West B...

    EPG discussion on Enigma2 STB's

Here Starlink is being promoted at a one time $142 cost for hardware and a monthly fee of $100 in local currency. Could you justify for your home? I don't think they have limits so video streaming might work out OK.

Anything up on 105W Ku band?

If you don't already have access to the "What's Up There" section on this site, then request access from a site administrator. That's where people post feed findings.

Anything up on 105W Ku band?

The Veteran's Channel is on 24/7 so at least it provides a beacon with video to allow you to find the satellite. But feeds these days are few and far between. I blind scan every one or two days but mostly only find data transponders that don't scan in. For the time it takes to blind scan, it's...

When he finds out what it would cost to pay somebody to take this down from that height, he will be begging for a hobbyist to take it away for free. For cost of a filter, it's a good deal, if a filter is needed here.
