    How things have changed

The people who run the games know that people want to play for larger jackpots. Mega used to be $1 while PowerBall was $2. Then Mega went to $2, and now $5. The bigger the jackpot, the more people play because people don't make smart decisions.

    How things have changed

They finally realized they need to compete on price. As for 5G broadband, it is fine for most people if you can get good signal, and not too many people sign up for it nearby.

    How things have changed

This is only somewhat applicable to the topic, but since it includes unwanted ads, I figured I'd share it: https://techcrunch.com/2025/06/24/iphone-customers-upset-by-apple-wallet-ad-pushing-f1-movie/ I am already displeased with a number of things Apple has done over the past few years (along...

Traditional/Streaming Live TV Providers Losses, 1st Quarter 2025 Edition

I have all of the following ad-free for the indicated monthly cost: AppleTV+ ($10) Netflix Premium ($25) Disney+/Hulu ($20) MAX Premium ($17.50) Paramount+ ($10) Peacock Premium Plus ($11.67) Total: $94.17 (I actually pay less through gift card deals and other discounts) Throw in the cost of...

    Prime Video ads to double

There are several things we want to watch on Prime this month, so I paid the $3. At least they seems to have fixed the bug in the AppleTV app where if you paid for ad-free, it skips to the end of the episode whenever you reach the point at which an ad would have played.

    How things have changed

Well, in the case of my parents, they are paying for: 1. Local News 2. Live Sports 3. Cable News (ugh, I know) 4. Reruns of their favorite shows 5. All of the above via a single UI (YTTV) Without YTTV or a traditional linear TV service, they would have to navigate multiple apps and would...

    Prime Video ads to double

Seems like the more you watch on Prime, the more ads you see. My wife and I watched the latest season of Reacher. The first episode had no ads, but each subsequent episode had more and more ads. Pretty sure we were seeing more than 3 minutes worth at the end of the season.

    Prime Video ads to double

AT&T Buys Lumen’s Consumer Fiber Business

AT&T's Fiber business is the bright spot in their otherwise lackluster business portfolio. That said, they have had a number of price increases in the past two years and changed the autopay discount to favor debit cards. Their CTO also has discussed switching to metered billing, but nothing...

    How things have changed

Based on what I know from working in the media space for a dozen years, but I'd guess the accuracy of viewing numbers aren't that different between streaming and cable/satellite. Pretty much everyone took the money to provide viewership stats collected from set top boxes. This even includes...

    Cox, Charter merging?

Based on my address, I wouldn't be too hopeful. I have Gig available from Google Fiber for $70 and AT&T for $90 (less with autoay discounts), and Spectrum is charging $100 after the 1-year discount expires.

    Cox, Charter merging?

I was wondering about this. Spectrum is still operating under the terms of a deal with NY state where they got tons of money to build out service to rural areas that included a provision about no data caps AFAIK. However, if it technically becomes a new company, then they may try to get out of...

Streaming soon might be the only place for scripted programming

Go out of my way to not pay for it while I can. Unfortunately, it seems like all the streaming services have sports now, so my efforts are probably in vain. If you want sports, it should be an up-charge IMHO.

Streaming soon might be the only place for scripted programming

Yeah, regular season sports [other than football] don't get particularly stellar ratings, yet are pretty much the most expensive thing on TV.

Comcast’s TV spinoff company now has a name

I think pretty much everyone knows how it works. Verizon takes millions of tax-payer dollars to install and maintain landline services and then doesn't do what they promised to get the money in the first place. The big difference between this and most other companies is Verizon is a regulated...
