More and more streaming FAST channels on DISH

My apologies if my simplified description left some confusion. Before I try to answer your question, let me give you a brief overview of MPEG-4 video compression. The MPEG-4 standard is huge with only a part of it dealing with video compression, so I will only describe the compression part...

More and more streaming FAST channels on DISH

It’s not a matter of having a data buffer. Rather, it’s how the data in the data buffer gets to the hard drive for recording. Move data is a very CPU intensive operation; tight loops to move the data one word at a time, and that means the CPU can’t be doing anything else. Using the CPU like this...

More and more streaming FAST channels on DISH

My guess is that it’s a hardware implementation issue of the H3. Likely there is some kind of HW assist to move the satellite data directly to the hard drive Independent of the H3 CPU. And that HW assist is likely hardwired tailored for just satellite data as streaming data was never conceived...

Dish Scapes on 199 is interesting

None of the streaming channels are currently recordable. It was rumored in another thread awhile back (don’t remember which one) that the ability to record streaming channels was coming later this year. But we’ll have to see.

NASA TV shutting down this August

At first I was also shocked and saddened by this. But when you go look at NASA+, it looks better than I was expecting. Everything is in either HD or 4k (as opposed currently NASA TV is only SD). And it all streams on demand, or stream repeated live events. So there is no need to be slave to a...

EchoStar/Dish raises doubts about 'ability to continue as a going concern'

Let’s start a new acronym, SAFE (Spouse Acceptance Factor Equation). It Allows you to always make the “safe” choice.

EchoStar/Dish raises doubts about 'ability to continue as a going concern'

The WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) is always a key and important part of the equation. (Or maybe to update it a bit, SAF (Spouse Acceptance Factor)

    Hopper 3 Software H376

I also got 376 last night. The first thing I noticed is that in the “schedule” tab (that shows the up coming recordings) the “show skipped” preference got reenabled. I always keep that off. This keeps happening with each update (for that last half dozen or so updates). It’s easy to put back, but...

    Hopper Plus Re-booting Issue

Yes this is correct. As tjboston5676 says, having a power supply that has a higher current rating will make no difference and will work the same (as long as the current rating of the power supply isn’t exceeded). What can make a difference however is have a defective power supply with a thermal...

    Dish Anywhere on Apple TV

So I tried out the Dish Anywhere Apple TV app. I am very underwhelmed. The UI is almost nothing like the H3 interface. There are almost no settings for configuring it. For example, you can’t set whether the Guide list goes up of down. And it always in dark mode. Navigation is very clumsy. Yes...

Big oops on Dish this morning

There was a big opps on Dish this morning about 10:30 PDT. While I was watching TV, all of sudden the picture froze, went black, then come back onto a Pay Per View channel. When I went to the guide, there was nothing there except for all the PPV channels and a couple of minor streaming...

Hmmmm…. Like a lot of TV these days, the April Dish Scape may just be a repeat. Yawn.

Dish Scapes on 199 is interesting

Last comment on the streaming Bora Bora (Boring Boring) Dish Scape on 198. As I said earlier, the action is pretty minimal. There are beach waves that somehow come from a completely waveless lagoon. The scene goes light, then dark, then light again, and continuously repeats this for some...

Dish Scapes on 199 is interesting

The streaming Dish Scape on 198 is Bora Bora. It’s a nice sedate tropical beach scene, but not much happens. I think it could be renamed Boring Boring.

Dish Scapes on 199 is interesting

Quick observations about this February‘s 199 “Valentine’s Garden” Dish Scape. Nothing terribly exciting, dancing hearts, loving swans, lots of mood music and lighting (fit for a hight school prom), flying Cupid statues. The love farting skunk is a funny, if odd, addition. But the one thing...

    MPEG2 Western Arc shutoff

Dish Scapes on 199 is interesting

I‘m back. Just before thanksgiving I had a horse riding accident and shattered my right femur. Two surgeries, leg rod implants, and a long hospital stay later, I’m now home and recovering nicely. But six weeks of old man walker hobbling. Finally getting a chance to see the newly redone Santa...

Can't update an expired credit card

I‘ve ran into similar issues with other services. But I can’t offer any speculation as to why this happens. however, I have found that in all cases this fix was to delete the existing expired card and to enter the updated card as a new card.
