Likely so they have 3 active QBs for the duration of his suspension, the Steelers have sent a 7th to the Bucs for Byron Leftwich.
They tried to get Leftwich back last year and TB balked at it.

His motorcycle accident is just another example of poor decision making, it's most certainly a factor in the treatment he is getting from the Steelers, but doesn't have any influence over his suspension.
Your previous post should also apply to Santonio Holmes too... they've got a history of dumping expendable players, and they do whatever it takes to keep those who are more valuable.

Wouldn't you ?
WOAH .... wait a minute....
Are you saying you believe Ben was drunk when he had his motorcycle accident ?
This is a FIRST, NO ONE has even thought about mentioning this, not the police or the team or the people that were in the accident.
Unfortunately players get into crashes (and I do not believe he was drunkenly intoxicated at the time of that crash) all the time too
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the Steelers are fielding "trade feelers" from other teams and haven't ruled out trading Ben.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be suspended for four to six games on Wednesday for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, according to multiple sources.
When the suspension is announced, it will contain conditions that will allow it to be reduced based on Roethlisberger's behavior and compliance with clinical evaluators.
Commissioner Roger Goodell's verdict will reinforce a message that NFL employees will be held to a higher standard than the law.
Steelers employees were bracing Tuesday night for what they suspected would be an eight-game suspension, but two sources said it would not be eight games.
Per Schefter, at least one team is considering the possibility of sending the top-ten selection to the Steelers for Roethlisberger.
gregaiello: Roger Goodell and Art Rooney have spoken to Ben Roethlisberger. Announcement of commissioner's decision coming shortly.
gregaiello: Commish notified Ben he must undergo comprehensive behavorial evaluation and is suspended for six games.
Speaking at a Play 60 event in Central Park just a short jog away from where I'm locked to the computer, Goodell said that he hasn't made a decision yet about Ben Roethlisberger's punishment.
Goodell wouldn't even confirm a suspension was coming, according to Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times.
