I guess I'll find out, won't I?
It should be able to be activated on the account. The account already is a Hopper account with the 211k on it. This is merely another receiver with a new UI and is not much different than any other 211 out there. There's no MOCA, no networking, so no interactivity with anything else. If DN prevents me from adding it to the account, it's due to whatever internal stupidity reigns at the moment on their side and not some technical reason. Most likely their billing systems can't deal with it yet, but it would probably come soon enough. This happened when the tailgaters and supporting 211's originally came out, initially you could not add them to a hopper account either. Now you can and that was solved quite some time ago.
I'll be the guinea pig for $100, it's no big loss to me either way. I'll keep everyone updated on how it goes.
What I'd like to know is if you purchase not lease can it be added to the account? The reason I ask this in this manner is that for ages the party line was hopper/2/3 could not be on an account with any VIP other than the 211 series. I kept calling and checking. I had 2 in my home and 1 in the Motorhome. No way that my wife and I could survive with only one available channel. I do the tripod route with a 1k4 dish and both EA & WA LNB. Makes finding a signal a much higher probability no matter the campsite. I digress. In any case after about 6 month of Hopper3 being out I called once again and inquired about Having my 722K for the motorhome if I switched to hopper. That rep said sure you can you have a purchased receiver on your account (actually they all were) so it will be no issue. After explaining that this is not what I had been told previously I asked if this didn't work would I be able to return the hopper and go back to the VIP account that I have had for years. The answer was yes, the install was scheduled, completed and a few hours after the tech left I called to activate the 722k that stays in the Motorhome (I only have it active when we are traveling and then suspend it when we return) within moments it was up and running. It was still working fine the next day so I had it deactivated but we've been able to turn it on every time we hit the road without issue since. So my thought is that Dish will not allow you to have multiple families of leased receivers on your account, in fact the system may not allow them to even enter that, but if you've purchased the receiver or at least in the case of the H3 and VIP722k there is no issue.
