Destiny is getting a sequel next year

http://www.theverge.com/2016/2/11/10971496/destiny-sequel-announced

The sequel to Destiny is on its way. Today publisher Activision Blizzard announced that it plans to release a "full game sequel" to the sci-fi online shooter at some point in 2017. That release will follow a "large new expansion" for the original game that's scheduled for sometime this year. Destiny launched in September 2014 as the first release from a 10-year contract between Halo creator Bungie and Activision. The game has seen multiple updates and expansions in the time since, including the massive overhaul The Taken King, the biggest expansion to date. According to Activision, more than 25 million people have played a cumulative three billion hours of the game. Unfortunately there are currently no details on what the sequel might look like, nor how it might connect to the original.

In absolutely SHOCKING news, the Street Fighter V servers couldn't keep up with demand.

I just miss playing Street Fighter Alpha 3. Alas...

Random question: Why is Ubisoft still using "Tom Clancy" for so many of their titles? From what I can tell Tom has no say in the development of the games, and I've found that most people when referring to the games don't even mention the "Tom Clancy" part. I understand they bought his video game company back in the day and decided to keep his name on the Red Storm Entertainment properties they developed, but now it feels like they're just doing it for sh*ts and giggle. I mean hell, Tom DIED in 2013!
Same reason EA still uses Madden's name, even though he's retired from announcing, Brand Recognition.

I was waiting for some of the DLC to hit and the price to drop. I guess I'll use the 20% off promo code on Green Man Gaming and grab it now.
You know, I'm hoping this isn't the new dirty "scheme" by the gaming industry where they're raising the prices of Season Passes upon the announcement of the actual content of them, and then they come out with the excuse of, "Oh well this DLC is SOOOO big and great that we REALLY should charge you $60 more for this, but we're just such sweethearts that we'll make it a little less than that and for a limited time you can still get it at the current price!" I mean think about it. You had no intention of buying the SP today. You, like any rational person, was waiting for a sale. Well, because of this announcement, without changing anything, the SP is now on sale and everyone is rushing to get it while it's still so cheap. The main reason I suspect this is because this same thing happened with the Dying Light SP. One big AAA game does it, okay I get that sometimes things go beyond scope and you logistically need to get that money back you've already invested. But for Fallout and Bethesda? Come on. These guys have been making hearty DLC for their games for years. They know how to keep costs down and plan appropriately for this stuff. I find it hard to believe that something happened so big that the price of the SP had to be nearly DOUBLED. Finally, it's also hard for us to swallow the added cost of DLC when you KNOW that odds are it was in the original scope of the game but was cut out of the final product to be sold separately and make more profits.

But hey, maybe it's all just a coincidence and this isn't going to become a trend among other game publishers who have shown there's nothing they won't do to get more money from consumers. But if this DOES end up trying to become the new norm, I'm just going to declare now that I f*cking called it.

I kind of had a similar thought. Like you said, I had no intention of buying the season pass until their was actually content available for it that I wanted to play. I also wanted to hopefully get it at a discount. The only reason I'm getting it now is because the price is going up to $50.

I don't like this development at all but I'm still going to buy in. The reasoning is that Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of the year and I am absolutely going to play the DLC. The way I see it, I can use the GMG promo code to pay $24 for now and get all DLC the day it comes out or I can wait until after the price goes up to $50 and start looking for discounts. It could very well be a year or two before it gets discounted back to that $24 price point again, let alone cheaper than that.

So no, I'm not happy about this getting me to buy the season pass earlier than I planned but since I know I want it I don't think it makes sense to wait when I know the price is going up.

I get that thinking but I'd argue that Madden isn't equivalent to Tom Clancy. I mean John Madden has been used in football games for almost 30 years (BTW if you want to see how far the series has come here's the first Madden game that you can play.) EA has always used his name and likeness in their football games, even before they had a NFL license. Meanwhile Tom Clancy's name is thrown all over different games, many of which were published after his death. And I understood using his name with Rainbow 6 since he wrote the book, but I really find it hard to believe that his name is helping sales for Ubisoft. I mean a game like The Division doesn't need Tom's name to sell. The game is going to sell itself based on gameplay.

My whole point with all this is that yes, I realize they keep the TC branding for recognition, but Ubisoft really doesn't have to keep paying money to his estate to keep using his likeness/name when clearly the games don't need them anymore.

Right, and for late comers to the game, now Bethesda can put the SP on sale for 50% off and people will be like "Wow! 50% off for a Season Pass! Buy!" not realizing that it's really just a $5 discount off the original price. But again, I could be wrong and this additional content is just SO GREAT and vast that it justifies paying for nearly a second game to get it all, but time will tell.

Speaking of, look at what is the #1 seller on Steam right now..

and on GMG..

Especially because a match in a fighting game doesn't typically take that long. Even a light penalty should be enough to keep people from quitting. Even if I am getting my ass handed to me in a fighting game I can probably suffer through it for the 2-3 minutes it will take for them to finish me off.

There goes my thoughts of maybe owning a VR headset this year. Sure, I could blow my tax refund on it but with the prices of these headsets being so high I'd like to give it some time to see how everything pans out.

One headset might end up having much more support than the other or the whole thing could end up as a niche product that never catches on because the price is too high. Most people who have tried it for themselves don't seem to think that will happen though. As cool as VR sounds, I don't think I'm going to be an early adopter.

Yeah I had no thoughts of getting it either. Until prices come down and some real software is available it's a novelty at best.
